MetroWest Fantastic Five High School Athletes from first week of fall

Even if summer is still in the air, the fall sports season has begun and the results are rolling in, starting with golf action. Who has started hot and who still needs more time to get going? Who will be the teams to watch out for not only in September but into November?

OK, let's begin with the here and now. Who were the best of the best from the opening week of high school golf season? Let's look at our Fantastic Five (plus a couple):

LIAM DUNN, Algonquin golf

Dunn (par 35) and Eddie Wenn (2-over 37) paced the visiting Titans (1-0) past Marlborough (0-1) at Marlborough CC on Friday, 45-9.

CONNOR GRIFFIN, Blackstone Valley Tech golf

The junior Griffin shot 3-over 39 at Highfields, and sophomore Charlie Leighton carded 41 to lift the host Beavers over AMSA, 173-183, on Thursday.

LUCAS LEVASSEUR/CJ KIVLEHAN, Hopedale golf

The senior captain Levasseur shot even-par 35 as the Blue Raiders (2-1) defeated Shrewsbury, 155-174, last week. The senior Kivlehan shot 37 with a hole in one on the par-3 third hole. Earlier in the week, the Blue Raiders beat Whitinsville Christian, 166-180, as Levasseur shot an even-par 35 in the victory. In a 166-171 opening loss to Grafton at Highlands, Levasseur shot a 39.

Meet the new boss: The new Hopedale High School golf coach is a familiar face to the program.

CHARLIE POTTER/SEAN SCANNELL, Dover-Sherborn golf

Scannell and Potter each shot even-par 33 to lead Dover-Sherborn over Millis, 215-250, at Pinecrest Golf Club in Holliston.

PARKER WINN, Hopkinton golf

The junior Winn shot a 36 as the Hillers won their opener over Norwood, 247-262.

OTHER SCORES:

BROMFIELD 32, Hudson 22: Evan Piekos shot 39 on the front nine of the North course at Stow Acres to power the Trojans in their season opener on Friday. The Hawks' Riley O'Sullivan also carded 39.

ST. PAUL 166, Nipmuc 181: Chris Palermo (3-over 39) and Aiden Boyce (4-over 40) led the host Knights (2-0) past the Warriors (0-1) at Green Hill on Thursday.

WESTWOOD 231, Ashland 262: Rebecca Kriegsman and Dean Reap each shot 41, but the Clockers lost their opener to Tri-Valley League host Westwood.
