Metamora hires former Mid-Illini player as new girls basketball coach

Michaela Reedy is the new Metamora girls basketball coach, the school board for Metamora Township High School District No. 122 voted Monday night.

Reedy spent the last four seasons at Plainfield North, tallying an overall record of 69-40 (.633) including back-to-back 22-win seasons in 2021-22 and 2022-23.

She will replace former Metamora coach Kyle Weyeneth, who resigned in April after a 39-16 record in two seasons. The Redbirds last season went 17-11 overall, 8-6 in Mid-Illini Conference play and are projected to return three starters highlighted by all-Mid-Illini second-teamer Ella Russell.

Reedy, who becomes the 16th coach in program history, played basketball at North Central College and went on to student-teach and coach at Joliet West. The 2014 East Peoria grad was an all-Mid-Illini first-teamer for the Raiders as a senior, who helped EP go 19-9 and 10-4 for a third-place conference finish.

She had been hired as a PE and health teacher at her alma mater, according to the East Peoria school board minutes from March. She will teach physical education at Metamora.
