Merritt Island High School is looking for a new head coach for its varsity girls soccer team after Nate Trout and the school agreed to part ways.

Trout coached the team for four years as head coach with one prior as an assistant.

“I’m truly going to miss the girls and the program,” Trout said. “I appreciate all the girls that played for me, past and present.

"I'm very grateful for Eddie Raleigh, Liz Porter and Kelsey Lewis, the assistant coaches the entire time I was there. I wish nothing but the best for the school and the girls.”

Trout was 60-15-7 in his four years as head coach.

He led the team to a regional semifinal, two region finals and a state final four in 2019.

“My goal is to coach high school soccer again, but right now I’m concentrating on my son and his kicking career,” Trout said.

Trout’s son Marcus will be a junior kicking for Holy Trinity in 2023.

The elder Trout kicked for Merritt Island, graduating in 1995. He then kicked for four years at Syracuse University from 1995-99. When he left the school, he was its all-time leading points scorer.

Trout will continue to be director for Central Brevard Soccer, and he will also coach the program’s U19 girls team.
