Memphis Grizzlies land guard Josh Christopher in five-team trade involving Dillon Brooks

The Memphis Grizzlies have finalized a five-team sign-and-trade that sends Dillon Brooks to the Houston Rockets and Josh Christopher to Memphis. The deal also included the Atlanta Hawks, Oklahoma City Thunder and Los Angeles Clippers.

Brooks agreed to a four-year deal with the Rockets that's reportedly worth $86 million, according to ESPN. Memphis getting involved in the sign-and-trade allows the Grizzlies to take a chance on a former first-round pick and create a traded player exception.

Christopher, a 6-foot-5 shooting guard, was selected with the 24th overall picks in the 2021 NBA Draft by the Rockets. In two seasons, he played in 138 games and averaged 6.9 points on 45.5% shooting. His career-high is 30 points against the Minnesota Timberwolves in April 2022.

Adding Christopher puts the Grizzlies at 17 standard contracts. Memphis can carry as many as 20 players before the start of the regular season, but the roster must be set at 15 standard contracts and three two-way deals by the first regular season game.

The TPE allows Memphis to potentially trade for a player whose salary will fit within the potential exception without having to send out matching salary. The Grizzlies could use the TPE to add an impact player at any point before the trade deadline of the upcoming season.
