Memphis-area rankings: Collierville, Arlington softball meet for fifth time in region championship

The Tennessee high school softball playoffs are quickly approaching the state tournament. Collierville and Arlington, two of the Memphis area's top-five softball teams this season, will meet Wednesday in the region championship game. Arlington has won three of the four meetings between the two teams.

In Mississippi high school softball action, Lewisburg, the lone Memphis area team left, lost to South Panola 7-4 in Game 3 on Monday to end its historic season one round shy of the state title series.

Here's this week's Memphis area softball rankings.

1. Lewisburg (26-11): The Patriots’ season ended in the Mississippi High School Activities Association 6A semifinals in a Game 3 loss to South Panola on Monday night. Last week’s ranking: No. 1.

2. Tipton-Rosemark (22-14-1): Neely Grantham’s dominant pitching performance helped the Rebels secure a region championship last week over St. Benedict. They’ll host Brentwood Academy in the Division II-AA quarterfinals on Friday. Last week’s ranking: No. 3.

3. Arlington (23-6-1): The Tigers defeated White Station on Monday night in the region semifinals to reach the region championship game. They’ll play Collierville on Wednesday. Last week’s ranking: No. 4.

4. Collierville (25-6): Kate Hogan’s two-home run performance helped the Dragons reach the district championship game last week. The Dragons will play Arlington for a chance to host the sectional game. Last week’s ranking: No. 2.

SOFTBALL REGION TOURNAMENT: TSSAA softball region tournament schedule, scores for Memphis area

5. Munford (17-6): The Cougars defeated Ripley for a district championship last week and will play Crockett County on Wednesday for a chance to host the sectional game. Last week’s ranking: No. 6.

6. Millington (14-12): Millington shut out Hamilton in the region semifinals and will play Fayette-Ware for a region championship on Wednesday. Last week’s ranking: No. 7.

7. Hernando (27-8): The Tigers’ were idle last week after their season ended to Lewisburg in the MHSAA 6A quarterfinals. Last week’s ranking: No. 5.

8. Brighton (14-13): The Cardinals’ season ended in the district tournament, ending the year on a four-game losing streak. Last week’s ranking: No. 8.

9. Houston (15-9): Houston’s season ended with a 7-6 loss to Collierville in the district tournament last week. Last week’s ranking: No. 9.

10. DeSoto Central (15-11-1): The Jaguars remain at No. 10 after their season ended against Madison Central in the second round of the MHSAA 6A playoffs. Last week’s ranking: No. 10.
