Memphis area high school boys basketball rankings: Top teams Cordova, Bartlett meet Tuesday

The TSSAA boys basketball playoffs are underway with district tournaments wrapping up this week and Mississippi High School Activities Association playoffs started over the weekend. As districts declare champions and the region tournaments begin, here's a look at the top Memphis area boys basketball teams.

1. Cordova (27-1): Julius Thedford’s 36 points helped the Wolves beat Houston in the District 15-4A semifinals and can win the district title with a win over Bartlett on Tuesday night. Last week’s ranking: No. 1.

2. Bartlett (26-4): The Panthers, who defeated Southwind 41-36 in the semifinals last week behind R'Chaun King's 15 points, are looking to win their third district championship since the 2020-21 season. Last week’s ranking: No. 2.

3. Douglass (29-0): DeMario Johnson was one of three players to score 17 points to help the Red Devils enter the region tournament as the No. 1 seed and remain undefeated on the regular season. Last week’s ranking: No. 3.

4. Briarcrest (25-4): Fred Smith scored 25 points in the Saints' season finale as they enter the Division II-AA playoffs as a No. 1 seed and will host a quarterfinal playoff round on Saturday. Last week’s ranking: No. 4.

5. FACS (23-3): Cell Jackson had 24 points and 11 rebounds as the Crusaders defeated ECS for a region title last week and enter the Division II-A playoffs as a No. 1 seed. Last week’s ranking: No. 5.

6. Ridgeway (21-5): The Roadrunners have won the last 15 games, including a district championship on Friday. They enter the region tournament as the No. 1 seed. Last week’s ranking: No. 6.

7. Whitehaven (21-8): The Tigers look to win their first District 16-4A title since the 2019-20 season. Last week’s ranking: No. 7.

8. Olive Branch (26-4): The Conquistadors defeated Columbus (MS) in the MHSAA 6A playoffs on Saturday to advance to the next round. Last week’s ranking: No. 9.

9. Memphis University School (20-5): The Owls defeated Christian Brothers behind Brandon Nicholson's 21 points last week and will play Ensworth this week in the first round of the Division II-AA playoffs. Last week’s ranking: No. 8.

10. Munford (20-3): The Cougars can win the District 15-3A title this week and debut in the area rankings. Last week’s ranking: Not ranked.
