Memphis-area basketball: Top two ranked teams meet for second district matchup

We’re finally back to normal basketball schedules after the ice and snow shut down the Tennessee high school boys basketball season last week. Here’s a look at the top teams in the area.

1. Bartlett (20-2): The Panthers look to hold on to the No. 1 spot this week as it clashes with Cordova for the second district matchup on Tuesday. Last week’s ranking: No. 1.

2. Cordova (20-1): The Wolves are looking for revenge against Bartlett on Tuesday. Bartlett handed Cordova its only loss on Jan. 5. Last week's ranking: No. 2.

3. Douglass (22-0): The Red Devils are still unscathed and look to continue their hot streak with the district tournament beginning in a couple of weeks. Last week’s ranking: No. 3.

4. Briarcrest (22-3): Cooper Haynes scored 26 last Tuesday in the Saints’ 71-60 win over Christian Brothers. They’re looking for a sweep over the Purple Wave on Friday night. Last week’s ranking: No. 4.

5. FACS (17-3): Jacob Walker scored 22 points in a win over St. George’s and 30 points in a win over Lausanne as the Crusaders move into the top 5 this week. Last week’s ranking: No. 6.

6. Fayette-Ware (17-1): The Wildcats have won 12 straight with games against Bolivar Central and Haywood this week. Last week’s ranking: No. 7.

7. Memphis University School (16-3): The Owls were handed just their third loss on Friday night, losing to Christian Brothers 46-41. Last week’s ranking: No. 5.

8. Whitehaven (15-7): The Tigers have won the last five since losing in the Memphis Hoopfest to Camden High School earlier this month. Last week’s ranking: No. 9.

9. Christian Brothers (13-8): Keeper Jackson led the way with 13 points helping the Purple Wave defeat MUS 46-41 at home on Friday night. They host MHEA and Briarcrest this week. Last week’s ranking: No. 10.

10. Ridgeway (14-5): The Roadrunners have won the last eight games and have three district games this week. Last week’s ranking: No. 8.
