‘He’s a member of the family;’ Dan Lanning describes familial relationship with Bo Nix

One of the pillars of the Oregon Ducks football program that head coach Dan Lanning has grown over the past couple of years since arriving in Eugene is the idea of family. While teammates will always play for each other, family members will do anything for each other.

On Friday at the Pac-12 media day, Lanning talked about his growing relationship with QB Bo Nix, and how things have changed since the two started working together a year ago.

“Bo’s not just our quarterback, he’s also my babysitter,” Lanning said. “I walked in the house the other day, and my wife was out with some of the other coaches’ wives I believe, and Bo’s in the living room. And I’m like ‘What are you up to man?’ He goes ‘Oh the boys just finished basketball practice, they’re getting ready for bed.’ So there’s a unique connection there but it’s more than just football. He’s a member of the family.”

It’s not often that you hear of a starting QB babysitting for his college head coach, but Nix and Lanning changed that this summer. We will have to see how that strengthened relationship can translate to success on the field this fall.
