Meeting Florida State football's wide receiver group for 2023, led by Johnny Wilson

Florida State football's 2023 season is almost here.

The Seminoles are spending their summer preparing for fall training camp and a potentially huge 2023 season with high expectations.

So, we have some time to get familiar with each position group.

Next up are the 15 wide receivers that are featured on FSU's roster as of June 28, 2023.

Here's a look at the Seminoles' receiver room for the 2023 season.

FSU Wide Receivers: Who's Back?

The wide receiver room is arguably the most talented room on the FSU roster heading into the 2023 season, despite the loss of two starters from last season in Ontaria Wilson (graduation) and Mycah Pittman (transfer to Utah).

The biggest reason is of course Johnny Wilson, who has emerged as one of the top wideouts in the nation. He is coming off a 43-catch season for 897 yards and five touchdowns. He averaged 20.9 yards per catch, catching 22 balls from quarterback Jordan Travis which resulted in 20 yards or more.

Winston Wright Jr., who missed all of last season after sustaining injuries in a car accident, is the next most accomplished receiver, finishing with 688 receiving yards and five touchdowns on 63 catches while garnering second-team All-Big 12 honors in 2021.

Slot receiver Ja'Khi Douglas returned from a preseason injury to finish with appear 10 receptions for 123 yards and two touchdowns in the final seven games

Another option for the outside, Kentron Poitier put together a strong spring, even garnering MVP of the Spring Showcase according to the Democrat beat writers. He finished with 14 receptions for 283 yards and four touchdowns last season.

Deuce Spann and Darion Williamson are two more playmakers for the team to rotate in or use in case of injuries. Spann made eight catches for 64 yards and rushed five times for 28 yards in 2022 and Williamson had eight receptions for 131 yards.

FSU Wide Receivers: Who's New?

Michigan State transfer Keon Coleman could end up being the biggest transfer portal addition for head coach Mike Norvell and his staff. He caught 58 passes for 798 yards and seven touchdowns last season for the Spartans.

The most intriguing addition to the room is freshman Destyn Hill, who saw his enrollment with FSU pushed back two years. He provides a strong option in the return game.

Freshmen Vandrevius Jacobs and Hykeem Williams were two early enrollees who have a chance to make an impact this season. Jacobs' strong spring garnered him the nickname, 'All Day Dre,' as he made impressive catches all spring. Williams, a 5-star recruit, caught 18 passes for 374 yards and five touchdowns, earning Broward County Athlete of the Year honors from the Miami Herald.

FSU Wide Receivers: Who's Starting?

Wilson is locked in as a starter and is a playmaking threat with his combination of speed and his 6-foot-7, 235-pound frame. He ended last season with an impressive eight-catch, 202-yard performance against Oklahoma in the Cheez-It Bowl.

Coleman, who is an impressive 6-5, 215-pounds, is the perfect compliment on the opposite side of Wilson, as defenders will not be able to key in on one receiver. He ranked eighth in catches, and sixth in each yards and touchdowns in the Big Ten last season.

It'll likely be between Douglas and Wilson for the starting role at slot receiver. Douglas has a leg-up with his playing last season and crisp route-running. Wilson is the more dynamic player between the two.
