Meet the members of the Daily News Girls Soccer All-Star team for fall 2023

Local athletes made names for themselves with star-studded performances and trophy-towing moments this past fall.

After combing over statistics and results, and with the guidance of local athletic directors and coaches, we at the Daily News selected All-Stars for girls volleyball, golf, field hockey, boys and girls cross-country, boys and girls soccer and football.

Although the sports and skill sets may vary, there’s no denying that this group put up otherworldly numbers this fall while helping their respective teams find success – whether that be on the course, field or in the gymnasium.

Without further ado, the Daily News presents its 2023 All-Stars for girls soccer:

Elena Andersson, AMSA

The all-state selection led the Eagles to the state tournament. She was named a Central Mass. all star and a Colonial all-star. The senior scored three goals with six assists. "Elena’s passion and full focus on the sport, and specifically her role, was evident. She made every player near her better and more confident, and still continued to make sure things were fun whenever she could," AMSA coach Sarah Bakkala said. "Elena became invaluable on the field." She's played five varsity seasons and also competes in indoor track and lacrosse. Andersson is a member of UNICEF and Leaders of Tomorrow.

Tessa Broderick, Dover-Sherborn

The Tri-Valley League Small MVP powered the Raiders to a second straight Final Four appearance. She was all-state, all-Eastern Mass. and a league all star. The senior center back is committed to Middlebury. "Tessa is our team’s heart and trusted center back," D-S coach Evren Gunduz said. "Tessa’s skill, athleticism, fitness, and game intelligence is off the charts. Tessa is the definition of our game mantra of playing with a heart of fire and a mind of ice."

Sasha Ceol, Dover-Sherborn

An Eastern Mass. and TVL all-star, she contributed five goals and five assists in her senior season. The center midfielder is a calm and steady leader. "Sasha is our team's brain," Gunduz said. "No competitive moment is too big for her and she exudes confidence, courage, and composure.” She's also a member of the National Honors Society, Dover-Sherborn Sustainability Task Force and the editor of RUNES, D-S' literary and arts magazine. Outside of school, she referees for Boston Area Youth Soccer, is A Shot For Life Ambassador and Dover-Sherborn TOPSoccer's program leader and fundraising coordinator. Ceol enjoys cooking, reading, crossword puzzles and skiing.

Georgie Clarke, Hopkinton

She was all everything this fall. The TVL Large Co-MVP earned All-America honors and was the Eastern Mass Division 1 player of the year. Clarke scored 17 goals and had nine assists, accumulating at least a point in 17 of the Hillers' 22 games en route to a Division 1 Final Four berth. Six of her goals were game-winners. "Georgie is an elite finisher that scores goals when we need them the most," Hopkinton coach Tom Skiba said. Clarke scored 52 goals in 45 career games and is a two-time All-New England honoree. She competes in futsal as well as volunteers with Relay for Life and A Shot For Life and is an avid skier.

Kendall Hacker, Natick

The three-year starter never missed a game. She was an Eastern Mass. all-star this season and a two-time Bay State all-star. As a defender, she keyed the Redhawks to 15 shutouts. They allowed nine total goals in 23 games en route to the Division 1 state title (her second). Hacker also contributed two goals and three assists. She's a member of the student council and the Natick School Committee Student Representative.

The Raiders' four year starter was named captain this past fall. She scored five goals as a center back and was named both all-state and an Eastern Massachusetts All-Star. Wellesley reached the Division 1 quarterfinals after playing in the semifinals a season ago. "She has consistently defended opponents with strength and composure. She has developed into a fantastic leader," Wellesley coach Steve Bailen said. "She has shut down any scoring threat and has great field awareness. Gaia has a strong leg and passes with accuracy to the midfield and on several occasions will connect with her forwards resulting in scoring opportunities." She also excels on the track, where she's an All-American and a state champion. Jacobs coaches youth players with the New England Soccer club and volunteers with the Village Table preparing and distributing meals to community fridges.

Kaitlyn LeBrun, Natick

She capped her career with an All-American nod an a second state championship. Lebrun was the Bay State Conference MVP and earned All New England recognition for the second year. The defender added three goals and helped Natick's defense suffocate opponents. "This player has achieved it all," Redhawks coach David Wainwright said. "Shut down defender against the state's finest." LeBrun is also a member of the National Honors Society.

Anya Montano, Nipmuc

The sophomore earned her first all-state selection and was named a Central Mass. All-Star for the second time. Nipmuc repeated as the Central Mass. champion and reached the Division 3 quarterfinals. Montano produced 13 goals with 11 assists, as the Warriors won the Dual Valley championship. "Anya is a player who commands the game. She can beat you in many ways, and makes everyone around her better," Nipmuc coach Stephen Khoury said. "She plays with fire and competitiveness a coach loves to have on their team." She also plays for the NEFC GA 08 club team and volunteers for school functions.

The junior has led the Warriors to a Central Mass. title each of the past three seasons. She scored 28 goals with eight assists and was All-State, a Central Mass. All-Star and DVC All-Star. Nipmuc reached the quarterfinals this fall. She's scored 73 goals with 21 assists in her career. "Kyah possesses great control with the ball in tight space, but can also beat you with her speed. She had to deal with double teaming this year and still has been able to lead our team in goals," Nipmuc coach Stephen Khoury said. Montano plays for the NEFC club team and has been both a Girls Academy National ID Clinic and Youth National Team ID Clinic invitee. She's part of the National Honors Society and volunteers at a local dog shelter.

Kelly O'Connor, Franklin

One of the Panthers' most dynamic playmakers, she finished with 22 goals and 12 assists. O'Connor was an All-State selection, an Eastern Mass. All-Star and a Hockomock All-Star, as Franklin reached the Division 1 Elite Eight. The junior has already racked up 40 goals in her career. "Kelly has incredible speed and 1v1 attacking skills. She is a nightmare to defend and is often double and triple covered," Franklin coach Jody Klein said. "She is the first pick when creating an attacking all-star team."

Olivia Penn, Natick

The senior hasn't left Natick's lineup since she entered it as a freshman. Penn scored four goals with four assists. She was both an Eastern Mass and Bay State all-star this season, as Natick raised its second state championship trophy in three years. "Consistent presence on the field and drives our teams standards," Natick coach David Wainwright said. "Leader, competitor and visionary." Penn also plays point guard on Natick's basketball team and participates in Unified Track. Her favorite subjects are math and history, and she hopes to play soccer in college.

She averaged 75 minutes per game and didn't pick up a card. The 2023 Central Mass. All-Star and Mid Wach A All-Star contributed four goals and six assists. Westborough reached the Division 1 Sweet 16. "Addi’s competitive intensity and ability to pull our team together hasbeen a tremendous asset. Anything’s possible with the ball at her feet, and we love that she draws this kind of attention from our opponents," Westborough coach Scott Moroney said. "When we need a spark, Addi's ready to act." Potenti founded the Woo Food Drive at Westborough and is also a member of Future Business Leaders of America and Covering Our Forces.

Maddie Recupero, Hopkinton

The TVL MVP scored 15 goals with 15 assists. She earned All-New England, All-State and Eastern Mass. All-Star honors, as well. The Hillers won their first 15 games and didn't lost until the state semifinals. "Maddie is a phenomenal playmaker with endless endurance, elite technical ability and an ability to score from distance," Hopkinton coach Tom Skiba said. The Princeton commit also plays piano and works at a brewery.

Kylie Tomasetti, Algonquin

She made the all-state team after scoring 12 goals with three assists. Tomasetti was also a Central Mass. and Mic Wach All-Star. The captain led the Titans to a CMADA title and the Division 1 state Round of 16. "Kylie's strongest attribute as an athlete is her sheer will to compete and win.  She is at her best when the games are most competitive," Algonquin coach John Frederick said. She is a member of the BEST FC and Liverpool Club programs. The senior plans on majoring in marketing, sports management or criminal justice.

Ava Vanbuskirk, Marlborough

Central Mass.' top goal scorer poured in 37 and was named the Mid Wach B MVP. She led the Panthers to the Round of 16. The New Hampshire commit was All-New England, All-State and a Central Mass. All-Star. Vanbuskirk's career scoring total stands at 103 goals. "Ava has been a crucial player for the Marlborough Girls Soccer Team scoring goals during pivotal moments. As a captain, Ava led the team on the field and in the classroom," Marlborough coach Gerald Padilla said. On the track, she holds four school records and own the Division 3 400-meter dash title last spring. Vanbuskirk is a member of the National Honors Society, MIAA Student Advisory Committee and participates in Unified Basketball and Unified Track & Field.

Rachel Welch, Franklin

She allowed just eight goals backstopping the Panthers to the Division 1 Elite Eight as a senior. Welch registered 10 shutouts with a 0.516 goals against average. She was named an Eastern Mass. and Hockomock League All-Star three times in her career. Franklin registered 33 shutouts with her in net and allowed just 25 goals. "Rachel has gotten better every year she’s been here. Her athleticism continues to improve allowing to make incredible saves with lightning fast reflexes," Franklin coach Jodi Klein said. She has trained with the Scorpions Soccer program for 10 years and plays on the 05/06 Elite Clubs National League team. Welch will continue her soccer career at UMass Lowell, where she'll major in public health.
