Meet the Greater Lansing high school baseball Dream Team, all-area
Here is a look at the LSJ high school baseball Dream Team and all-area selections.
PLAYER OF YEAR
Caleb Bonemer
▶ School: Okemos
▶ Accomplishments: The Virginia commit was the Gatorade Michigan Baseball Player of the Year and named to the Michigan High School Baseball Coaches Association Dream Team. The first team all-state selection helped the Wolves claim a Division 1 district title and hit .548 with 12 doubles, three triples and 12 home runs. Bonemer had 43 RBIs and 16 stolen bases.
DREAM TEAM
Lalo Aguirre
▶ School: Olivet
▶ Accomplishments: The sophomore was named to the MHSBCA Dream Team and earned first team all-state honors in Division 2. Aguirre, a third baseman and pitcher, hit .503 with 73 hits, 17 doubles, two home runs and 65 RBIs. On the mound, Aguirre was 10-2. He helped Olivet win Diamond Classic, GLAC, district and regional championships.
Colby Ardelean
▶ School: Corunna
▶ Accomplishments: The third baseman and pitcher hit .554 with 12 doubles, a triple, two home runs and 22 RBIs. He stole 42 bases and scored 51 runs and also went 4-0 on the mound with a 2.33 earned run average. He set school records for hits (62) and steals in a season for the Corunna, which tied for the Flint Metro League Stars title.
Ramsey Bousseau
▶ School: Olivet
▶ Accomplishments: The Aquinas-bound shortstop and pitcher was a second team all-state selection in Division 2. Bousseau batted .402 with 59 runs scored and 34 steals and finished 11-1 on the mound with 77 strikeouts and a 0.86 earned run average for the Eagles, who won the Diamond Classic and GLAC, district and regional titles.
Ethan Bowen
▶ School: Ionia
▶ Accomplishments: The Aquinas-bound Bowen hit .411 with 10 doubles, a triple, a home run and 45 RBIs for the Bulldogs. Bowen went 7-3 on mound with a save and 112 strikeouts in 64 2/3 innings with a 1.62 ERA.
Evan Curtiss
▶ School: Fowler
▶ Accomplishments: The junior first baseman and pitcher batted .400 and hit 12 home runs with 36 RBIs and 28 runs scored for the Eagles, which won the CMAC and Division 4 district and regional titles.
Caleb Estrada
▶ School: Grand Ledge
▶ Accomplishments: The senior infielder hit .348 with nine home runs and 35 RBIs and contributed on the mound with four saves and a 1.28 ERA for the Comets, who won the CAAC Blue and finished as the Diamond Classic runner-up.
Logan Keilen
▶ School: St. Johns
▶ Accomplishments: The junior catcher batted .507 with three home runs and 11 doubles, seven triples, 20 RBIs and 23 runs scored for the Redwings, who finished tied for first in the CAAC Red.
Landon Makley
▶ School: Lakewood
▶ Accomplishments: The junior was a second team all-state selection in Division 2 after setting school records for hits (55) and triples (five). Makley batted .447 with 10 doubles, four home runs and 42 RBIs. On the mound, Makley had 107 strikeouts in 69 innings.
Carter Melnik
▶ School: Grand Ledge
▶ Accomplishments: The junior pitcher and outfielder went 6-2 with a 1.67 earned run average and 38 strikeouts in 44 1/3 innings for the CAAC Blue champion Comets. He also batted .325 for Grand Ledge
Ty Randall
▶ School: Laingsburg
▶ Accomplishments: The junior earned Division 3 first team all-state honors after hitting .477 with 12 doubles, five triples and 47 RBIs while helping the Wolfpack capture a district title and finish in a three-way tie for second in the CMAC. He also had 22 stolen bases and 46 runs scored and made an impact on the mound by going 11-3 with 135 strikeouts and a 1.31 ERA.
Daniel Shipman
▶ School: Lansing Catholic
▶ Accomplishments: The senior infielder/outfielder and pitcher hit .458 with 19 RBIs for the Cougars, who won league, district and regional titles and reached the Division 3 state semifinals.
Caden Thelen
▶ School: Portland
▶ Accomplishments: The junior outfielder and pitcher earned all-region honors for the Raiders, who won a share of the CAAC White title. He batted .444 and also was a key performer on the mound.
Drew Tolfree
▶ School: Lansing Catholic
▶ Accomplishments: The sophomore went 8-1 on the mound for the Cougars, who won the CAAC White and district and regional titles on its way to the Division 3 state semifinals. Tolfree had a .516 ERA and 47 strikeouts entering his state semifinal start.
Bryce Wine
▶ School: Olivet
▶ Accomplishments: The junior infielder was selected second team all-state in Division 2. Wine helped Olivet to Diamond Classic, GLAC, district and regional titles and hit .436 with 50 runs scored and 30 stolen bases.
COACH: Bill Whitely, Olivet: Guided Eagles to a record season that included the program's first Diamond Classic title and GLAC and Division 2 district and regional championships.
