Meet Greater Fall River's high school boys basketball all-stars

FALL RIVER — The Herald News Winter All-Scholastics winds down to its final two sports, starting with boys basketball all-stars.

Five Greater Fall River high school teams enjoyed a great amount of success due in the 2023-24 season. None more than Somerset Berkley, who made it all the way to the Final Four for the first time in school history.

Raider senior captain Mason Medeiros starred in the regular season and took his play to another level in the postseason, which is why he was named the Herald News Boys Basketball Player of the Year.

The Herald News is pleased to announce the 2023-24 Winter All-Scholastics Boys Basketball All-Stars from Greater Fall River:

Medeiros was the glue that held the Raiders together during the regular season and the postseason. The SBR senior captain began the winter season with a different role. He averaged 10.9 points per game, 5.7 rebounds, 55 steals, 41 assists and 28 3-pointers. Instead of scoring, Medeiros was looked upon to provide the team with leadership.

That changed in the playoffs as Medeiros averaged a team-best 17 points per game. He led the team in scoring in each of the Raiders four postseason contests, including 18 against Mansfield that sent SBR to its first-ever Division 2 Final Four appearance in school history. He had a game-high 16 points as the Raiders nearly upset top seed Malden Catholic.
