Meet the 2023 Corning/Elmira/Ithaca-area Elite 10 Girls Soccer Team
Corning/Elmira/Ithaca Player of the Year
Skye Honrath, Watkins Glen
Grade: Junior.
Position: Forward.
Achievements: She matched program record with 33 goals to help the Lake Hawks repeat as Interscholastic Athletic Conference Small School and Section 4 Class C champion. Named Most Valuable Player of the IAC South Small School Division and selected second-team all-state in Class C.
Mia Capilli, Elmira
Grade: Junior.
Position: Forward/midfield.
Achievements: She had 10 goals and four assists and earned Southern Tier Athletic Conference Metro/West all-conference honors. Capilli helped Express to share of Section 4 Class AAA title and berth into the state tournament.
Eliza DeRito, Ithaca
Grade: Sophomore.
Position: Center forward/wing.
Achievements: She was a fifth-team Class AA all-state selection and was selected to STAC Metro/West all-conference team. DeRito helped Little Red earn a share of Section 4 Class AA championship with Vestal.
Ava Fairbrother, Horseheads
Grade: Senior.
Position: Goalkeeper.
Achievements: She was named Southern Tier Athletic Conference Metro/West all-conference for second time after helping Horseheads capture the division title and advance to the STAC tournament final. Fairbrother set a program record with 91 saves during the season.
Madelyn Hayes, Chenango Valley
Grade: Junior.
Position: Forward.
Achievements: She scored 30 goals and assisted on 15 to help Chenango Valley capture the Section 4 Class B championship. Hayes was named to Class B all-state third team and was a Southern Tier Athletic Conference Central/East selection.
Sasha Honrath, Watkins Glen
Grade: Senior.
Position: Midfielder.
Achievements: She had 19 goals and five assists during the season to help Watkins Glen win the Interscholastic Athletic Conference Small School and Section 4 Class C championships for the second year in a row. Named to Class C all-state third team.
Erin McDonald, Owego
Grade: Senior.
Position: Forward/midfield.
Achievements: She scored 34 goals this past season to finish with 93, the most in program history. McDonald earned all-state recognition for the third season and helped Owego capture the Section 4 Class A championship. She also was named Southern Tier Athletic Conference Central/East for third time.
Emily Nixon, Chenango Valley
Grade: Junior.
Position: Midfielder/defender.
Achievements: Nixon had 20 goals and 17 assists in helping Chenango Valley win the Section 4 Class B championship. She was a Southern Tier Athletic Conference Central/East selection and a first-team all-state pick in Class B.
Ava Schmidt, Vestal
Grade: Junior.
Position: Midfielder.
Achievements: Schmidt was named second-team all-state after helping the Golden Bears advance to the Class AA state tournament by winning a 13th consecutive Section 4 title, which Vestal shared with Ithaca. Schmidt was named to the Southern Tier Athletic Conference West/Metro team and was part of the Golden Bears overall STAC champion team.
Addie Stockwin, Vestal
Grade: Junior.
Position: Center defender.
Achievements: Stockwin was a key to Vestal's run to a 13th straight Section 4 title, a berth in the Class AA state tournament and the Southern Tier Athletic Conference tournament championship. She was a fourth-team all-state choice and was named to the STAC Metro/West all-conference team.
