Matthew Stafford is 1 of only 6 active QBs to start and win Super Bowl

Winning Super Bowls is hard. So hard, in fact, that more than a third of the teams in the NFL still hasn’t won one in their history.

The Rams aren’t among them, having won a Super Bowl twice. Matthew Stafford helped them win their second one a year ago, immediately elevating the offense after being traded from Detroit to Los Angeles.

While he may not have had a great 2022 season, which was plagued by injuries, Stafford is still one of the few quarterbacks currently in the NFL who can proudly wear a Super Bowl ring after being the starter in that game.

Former Jets GM Mike Tannenbaum reminded everyone just how hard it is to find a championship-caliber quarterback when he tweeted the list of active passers who started and won a Super Bowl. Stafford is among them and only three others are still starters entering the 2023 season.

With Tom Brady, Ben Roethlisberger, Drew Brees and Eli Manning retiring in the last few years, the group of active Super Bowl-winning quarterbacks has thinned out. It doesn’t help that Brady won four of the last nine championships, with Patrick Mahomes, Nick Foles, Peyton Manning and Stafford being the only other starting quarterbacks to win a ring since the 2014 season.

The Rams have an uphill climb to winning a Super Bowl again next season, but with Stafford coming back healthy again, anything is possible.
