Matt Gay shows he’s one of NFL’s best kickers with 55-yarder at freezing Lambeau

Justin Tucker is unquestionably the best kicker in the NFL, but Matt Gay is right there with him as the second-best in football right now. Gay once again proved just how good he is during the first half against the Packers, drilling a 55-yard field goal in freezing conditions at Lambeau Field.

He made the kick look easy, too, and he became a part of history by knocking it through the uprights. He’s just the third kicker ever to make a 50-yard field goal in Green Bay with the temperature below 25 degrees.

The other two were Mason Crosby (shocker) and Greg Joseph.

With two more field goals in the first half, Gay is now 21-for-23 on the year and his only misses were from beyond 50 yards. He’s also made all 23 of his extra-point tries.

In the last two years, Gay is 53 for 57 on field goal attempts and has only missed six field goals since joining the Rams in 2020, going 67-for-73. He missed eight of his first 35 field goal attempts with the Buccaneers as a rookie in 2019.
