Mathis' Medrano voted Sames Caller-Times High School Athlete of the Week

Mathis' Ruben Medrano was on fire last week, tallying 81 points for the Pirates over four games and has been voted the Sames Caller-Times High School Athlete of the Week.

Medrano hit six 3-pointers on his way to a 27-point outing against Banquete in his best game of the week.

Medrano received 24,260 of the 54,621 votes cast, which was 44.4% of all votes.

Veterans Memorial junior football player Christian Sabsook was second with 21,146 votes.

Students can only be named Athlete of the Week one time per season, per sport.

Nominations are due each Monday by 5 p.m. and can be submitted through email at ctsports@caller.com, by messaging the Caller-Times through its Facebook page, or on Twitter @CallerSports.

Voting runs Tuesday through Thursday each week.
