Thanks to Disney+, fans now have the opportunity to watch and rewatch their favorite Marvel movies. Though it would take you literally days to get through them all, having everything at your fingertips is certainly an exciting opportunity.

It also means that keen-eyed fans have more time to find small tidbits and expand them into theories, as well as spot gaping plot holes that we didn't know were there. Given the pure wealth of Marvel movies on Disney+, there are bound to be a few.

One Redditor found a Nick Fury plot hole that has nothing to do with the Spider-Man reveal that he'd been a Skrull for some time. In fact, it has more to do with Captain Marvel and a little Flerken named Goose.

Towards the end of Captain Marvel, with all the goodies having escaped, Nick is playing with the ginger cat Goose, who is actually a type of alien called a Flerken. Goose is important to Nick because he's swallowed the Tesseract.

But while Nick is playing with him, Goose lashes out at Nick Fury, scratching his face, which results in him losing his eye. At the end of the film, Agent Coulson presents Nick with a choice of glass eyes and plays into the rumor circulating that the Kree burned out his eye when he wouldn't give up the Tesseract.

Captain Marvel takes place in 1995, meaning it's one of the earlier movies in the Marvel Cinematic Universe chronology. In Captain America: The Winter Soldier, which takes place in 2014, there's a big divide amongst the Agents of SHIELD and suddenly Nick Fury and some Avengers are considered traitors.

During Captain America: The Winter Soldier, baddie Alexander Pierce is being questioned about Nick, and he is shown a photograph of Fury. Pierce says: "That photo was taken five years after Nick and I met." Hold the phone.

Fury and Pierce met in Bogota during a mission which happened after the events of Captain Marvel. Though the date of the Bogota mission is a mystery, it must have taken place after 1995 since Fury was a Level 3 agent in Captain Marvel and the photo is from five years after he was made Director.

But the photo shows Fury with two eyes, and therein lies the problem.

However, we have a couple of explanations/logic-plasters. The first comes from Captain Marvel itself–remember, Coulson offered Fury a selection of glass eyes. There is always the chance that Fury chose to wear one on the day that picture was taken.

The other and more obvious answer is that Captain Marvel was filmed long after Captain America: The Winter Soldier and the decision to explain how Nick lost his eye was a simple retcon. Retcons often open up plot holes that weren't there to begin with.

So, in all likelihood at the time Captain America: The Winter Soldier was made (2014), there were no plans to explain when and how Fury lost his eye. Fast forward to 2019 and we've got Captain Marvel, Goose, and the scratch that forever changed Nick Fury's life.

Ironic, since it's in Captain America: The Winter Soldier in which Nick Fury reveals: "Last time I trusted someone, I lost an eye." Now we know the person he trusted was a Flerken named Goose.
