Marcus Maye, NFL experts, fans react after Jets trade Sam Darnold to Panthers

The Jets finally found a suitor for Sam Darnold.

New York officially traded the 23-year-old quarterback to the Panthers Monday in exchange for three draft selections. The Jets received a 2021 sixth-round pick and second- and fourth-round picks in 2022.

Darnold finished his Jets career completing 59.8% of his passes for 8,097 yards, 45 touchdowns and 39 interceptions. He was the NFL’s lowest-rated passer over the last three seasons as he dealt with a lackluster supporting cast and poor coaching.

Now Darnold will get a change of scenery that will likely benefit both sides. He’ll be coached by Matt Rhule and Joe Brady and surrounded by talents like Christian McCaffrey, Robby Anderson and D.J. Moore.

Jets fans, who were split between bringing Darnold back and drafting a quarterback, took to social media to voice their opinions regarding the blockbuster trade. One of Darnold’s now-former teammates and some NFL insiders shared their thoughts as well.
