Marco Chavez looks to build on success with Chapin football program

Marco Chavez is ready for his new challenge.

Chavez was recently named the new head football coach at Chapin, where he was previously the defensive coordinator.

"I'm looking forward to being a head coach, we have great tradition here at Chapin and I've been fortunate to have had lots of great people around me to help me," Chavez said.

Chavez replaces Ryan Warner, who took a head coaching job at Class 6A Pebble Hills. Chapin competes in Class 5A Division II in football.

Chavez played a key role as the defensive coordinator on the 2021 team, which won nine games and a bi-district title and last year's team, which won seven games.

"We have a great group of kids, a good group of leaders," said Chavez, who played at Chapin in high school and at Mary Hardin Baylor in college. "The kids are working hard every day and we're looking forward to next season. We have a solid group coming back and our district will be tough."

Chavez becomes the fourth head coach in school history after Warner, Rene Hernandez and Daren Walker.
