Manchester'sTimCate promoted to Triple-A Rochester

Jul. 2—Rochester put Cate right to work Friday night and, after a shaky start, he left unscathed.

With Rochester trailing Lehigh Valley 3-1, Cate entered in the seventh inning. He allowed singles to the first two batters, but got the next two out, the last on a strikeout, before exiting. Luis Reyes got a strikeout to end the inning and keep Cate's Triple-A ERA at 0.00. Rochester ralled to beat the IronPigs 5-4

Three of the four batters Cate faced Friday were left-handed hitters against whom he's had success this season. Three had modest major league experience, and one, Scott Kingery, was a two-year starter with the Phillies and is in the last year of a six-year, $24 million contact. The right-handed hitting Kingery hit a line drive to left before getting Cal Stevenson to fly out to left, then striking out Jake Cave.

It was Cate's fourth relief appearance last week and 16th of the season. Cate has only been scored upon three times and hasn't given up a run since May 7, when New Hampshire scored three. Cate is 2-2 with a 3.26 ERA in 191/3 innings.

One factor in Cate's scorelss streak is his injured list stint, which started May 20 and ended two weeks ago. The Nationals and Sentaors didn't disclose the injury, but Cate alluded to a minor shoulder injury in an interview with masnsport.com shortly before going on the IL.
