Malcolm Jenkins rips Blake Bortles and praises Colin Kaepernick, all in one sentence

Philadelphia Eagles safety Malcolm Jenkins probably just meant to throw some support to Colin Kaepernick.

But he ended up ripping the quarterback he’ll face this Sunday in London.

In talking about this Sunday’s game against the Jacksonville Jaguars, Jenkins noted that Kaepernick should be playing for the Jaguars.

“I can turn on the tape this week of our opponent and see that Colin Kaepernick deserves a job,” Jenkins said, according to Mike Garafolo of the NFL Network.

Jenkins might have been trying to give a shoutout to Kaepernick, but he also ran the bus over Jaguars QB Blake Bortles in the process.

While Jenkins’ words were harsh, it’s no secret that Bortles is struggling. Bortles got benched last week for Cody Kessler. The Jaguars are sticking with Bortles this week against the Eagles this week.

Now Bortles has some extra motivation.

Malcolm Jenkins was supporting Colin Kaepernick

Jenkins’ words come right after he had a public spat with Eric Reid before the Eagles played Reid’s Carolina Panthers, and Kaepernick was a big reason for it.

Reid was upset that Jenkins’ involvement in the Players Coalition, negotiating with the NFL, seemed to sell out Kaepernick and the movement he started. It’s a sensitive subject, and Jenkins was talking about his continued support for Kaepernick when he managed to rip Bortles.

Of course, Kaepernick being signed by the Jaguars at any time seems to be an extreme long shot. Kaepernick hasn’t played since the 2016 season. He has been unsigned while other lesser quarterbacks have been given chances, clearly due to Kaepernick’s demonstrations during the national anthem to bring attention to social injustice, and that’s why he filed a collusion grievance.

Kaepernick is unlikely to be signed by the Jaguars or anyone else. But in making a point about Kaepernick being out of the league, Jenkins made some bulletin-board material for the Jaguars.
