Mackinaw City's Gracie Beauchamp named NLC's girls basketball player of the year

MACKINAW CITY – It was another big season on the court for the Mackinaw City girls basketball team.

In the Northern Lakes Conference, the Comets maintained their dominance and won another crown under coach Jake Huffman. Following the conclusion of the season, several Comets earned spots on the All-NLC team.

Leading the way for Mackinaw City on the NLC first team was senior guard Gracie Beauchamp, who was also named the NLC’s player of the year. During her final season with the program, Beauchamp averaged 16.6 points, 8.2 rebounds, 6.7 assists and 5.3 steals per game.

Joining Beauchamp on the NLC first team was senior twin teammate Jersey Beauchamp, who averaged 11.5 points, 6.4 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 2.4 steals.

Mackinaw City players making the NLC second team were senior Grace Sroka, sophomore Kerry-Ann Ming and freshman Kenzlie Currie. Freshman Rian Esper was recognized as an honorable mention.

ALL-NLC BOYS: Mackinaw City's Bergstrom and Swanson, NMCA's Brabson make All-NLC basketball first team

Burt Lake Northern Michigan Christian Academy saw senior Alexis Fosmore and eighth grader Shanna Ferraiuolo secure nods on the NLC first team. Addie Pietrowski and Katie Schepperly made the second team.

Other NLC first teamers included Ellsworth’s Avery Strange and Isabella Essenberg, and Alanson’s Gretchyn Bowman.

Ellsworth’s Ruby Pletcher and Hannah Essenberg and Harbor Light’s Charlotte Gagnon and Anne Chamberlain rounded out the NLC second team.

Kerry DeYoung (Ellsworth), Sarah Smith (Harbor Light), Lorelei Henderson (Alanson), Emma Paw (Alba), Hayden Williams (Wolverine) and Kara Doeden (Wolverine) each earned honorable mention accolades.

Mackinaw City was once again a force in the NLC, winning the conference with an unbeaten record for a sixth consecutive season. The Comets went 12-0 in conference play.
