The 2023/24 Premier League season is under way and you can follow every game and every goal right here with The Independent.

This year sees Manchester City try to defend their crown and claim a historic fourth title in succession. Pep Guardiola’s all-conquering City, who also won the Champions League and FA Cup last season, will have to see off Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United, Liverpool and the rest to claim an unprecedented sixth league title in seven years.

Meanwhile Luton Town are making their first appearance in the Premier League, having risen from non-league in an incredible decade of progress. They followed Championship winners Burnley and second-placed Sheffield United in earning promotion to the top flight.

Follow the latest action from the Premier League below.

Luton Town FC 3 - 4 Arsenal FC

Arsenal’s chaotic nature brings late drama against Luton and a possible route to the Premier League title

22:48 , Mike Jones

If this is at last to be Arsenal’s year, it will have been because of moments like this. Only bolstering their confidence is that this was just the latest. Declan Rice scored a 97th-minute header for the Premier League leaders to plunder a 4-3 win over a doughty Luton Town team who will feel they deserved more. They again gave the competition an awful lot here. This was just the latest in a series of these chaotically entertaining games - many of them 4-3 - on which the Premier League has sold another multi-billion broadcast deal.

It was also the latest in a series of psychologically crucial late victories for Mikel Arteta’s side, whatever about the importance in the table. This was the fifth time they had scored a game-changing goal after the 84th minute in just 15 league games this season. It was also the second time they had done it in three weeks. Arsenal, as against Brentford, won by a nose.

Luton Town more than made them work for it. Arsenal felt the pain, quite literally after some challenges, before they felt the joy.

Arsenal win a thrilling Premier League contest 4-3 at Kenilworth Road to move five points clear at the summit ahead of the chasing pack playing later in the week. Martinelli and Jesus scored either side of Osho's equaliser to put the visitors ahead at the break, but Adebayo headed home early in the second half to level up. Barkley put Town in front, only for Havertz to equaliser on the hour and Rice to win it right at the very death. Just how big a result could that be at both ends of the table come the end of the season? Luton now have five days to get this loss out of their system before hosting Manchester City, while Arsenal - who will lead the table regardless going into the weekend - travel to Aston Villa on Saturday.

We have played the six minutes of added time. Surely there is not one more late chance for the visitors - or indeed the hosts?

Luton Town vs Arsenal

22:13

Another Arsenal corner comes to nothing. Luton are standing firm, as Saka's latest cross is not met by one of his team-mates.

Luton Town vs Arsenal

22:12

Luton supporters are urging their side over the line now. What a massive point this would be in their fight for survival. White's low cross from the right hits Ogbene for a late Arsenal corner...

Luton Town vs Arsenal

22:10

Arsenal win themselves another corner in the second minute of added time. Saka delivers and Osho heads away. Trossard's shot from range is then blocked by Chong.

Luton Town vs Arsenal

22:08

Six minutes have been added on at the end of this thrilling game at Kenilworth Road.

Luton Town vs Arsenal

22:08

Saka is still trying his best to make something happen, but he is crowded out on the edge of the Luton box. This is not quite relentless pressure from Arsenal, but they are certainly knocking on the door.

Luton Town vs Arsenal

22:05

SHOT! Trossard's first-time effort from 20 yards skims just wide of the post. Kaminski looked worried as he dived to his left.

Luton Town vs Arsenal

22:04

SAVE! This is superb play from Arsenal. They work the ball to Zinchenko, who hangs the ball up for Havertz to meet. It initially looks like being a superb save, but replays show it was actually going over the crossbar.

Luton Town vs Arsenal

22:02

Ogbene's eyes light up as he finds himself in space down the left, but his cross is horribly overhit. Arsenal need to be aware of Town's ability to counter.

Luton Town vs Arsenal

22:01

Yet more clever football from Arsenal, and Trossard in particular, but once again the final pass is lacking as Luton win a goal kick.

Luton Town vs Arsenal

22:01

Around six minutes of normal time remaining and it is Arsenal who are asking all the questions now. Odegaard plays a free-kick low into the path of Jesus, but he is unable to find a team-mate. The Gunners certainly looking as though they have a late winner in them, though.

Luton Town vs Arsenal

21:58

Trossard is finding himself in some great positions. White's cross is headed on by Havertz and is just out of the reach of Trossard at the back stick.

Luton Town vs Arsenal

21:58

Trossard lets the ball run through but the opportunity to get a shot away does not arise. VAR checks for a possible foul on Saka and a shirt pull in the middle, but neither are deemed worth of checking. Play resumes.

Luton Town vs Arsenal

21:55

CHANCE! Saka is involved in everything at the moment. He wins the ball and cuts in between Bell and Morris, before tapping it into the path of Trossard. The substitute has a small part of the goal to aim for, but his effort deflects over the bar.

Luton Town vs Arsenal

21:54

Saka gets a yard on Bell, but the cross is cut out for a corner. The Arsenal forward sends it under the crossbar, but it is a player in orange who gets on the end of it.

Luton Town vs Arsenal

21:53

SAVE! Odegaard gets a shot on target from 20 yards, which is a nice one for Kaminski to keep out down to his right. The Gunners possibly starting to turn the screw here.

Luton Town vs Arsenal

21:52

Odegaard is picked out by White from a throw but is not really able to do anything with the ball inside the box. Arsenal are still on top, but they are not exactly creating anything of note.

Luton Town vs Arsenal

21:50

Saka is being targeted constantly now, with Doughty the latest to take him out from behind. Luton are not afraid to get in their opponents' faces, and it is paying off for now.

Luton Town vs Arsenal

21:49

Arsenal have had seven shots on target to Luton's four. The hosts' latest effort, via Mpanzu, is well off target from range. Saka is in a bit of pain after being caught by Bell.

Luton Town vs Arsenal

21:48

Jesus initially gets away from Bell, and the Luton defender has to be careful not to bring down his opponent. However, Jesus rather comically hits the ball out of play off his own leg.

Luton Town vs Arsenal

21:47

Luton seem a little happier to sit back now, leaving just Morris up top. Arsenal have plenty of time to find a winner here, but they must be wary of the counter.

Luton Town vs Arsenal

21:45

Arsenal, for the first time this half, have a little control. Arteta's men have scored three times and yet they are still not ahead.

Luton Town vs Arsenal

21:44

There has not been a great deal of note happening since Arsenal's equaliser, not helped by the disruption brought about by those five substitutions.

Luton Town vs Arsenal

21:44

Ross Barkley's only previous Premier League goal against Arsenal came back in October 2015 in a 2-1 defeat for Everton at Emirates Stadium. The longest gap (8 years and 42 days) between league goals for a player against the Gunners since Cristiano Ronaldo scored his first against Arsenal in 13 years and 233 days in December 2021.

We are entering the period of the game in which both managers - but mainly Arteta - will be considering a change or two. Arsenal have not got going at all in this second half.

Luton Town vs Arsenal

21:32

Odegaard sends a decent delivery into the box and it is met by Havertz. He is rather stationary, though, and is unable to guide his header on target.

Luton Town vs Arsenal

21:31

The offside flag goes up to deny Saka in a bit of a chaotic period, but VAR wants to check an earlier incident. Kiwior is caught by Townsend, possibly on the edge of the box. Alternatively, it may well be that they are looking at Kiwior catching Townsend on the shin.

Luton Town vs Arsenal

21:29

Arsenal are unbeaten in their last 32 Premier League matches when leading at half-time (W29, D3), dating back to January 2022 against Manchester City (1-2). Can Luton score another to pull off an almighty upset?

21:26

Doughty does brilliantly to get in between two Arsenal players as he charges into the box from the left. He looks to pick out a team-mate in the middle, but the delivery is cut out. From the next attacking wave, Townsend's long-range drive deflects behind.

Luton Town vs Arsenal

21:25

Luton have started the second half the brighter of the two sides. Townsend shows some trickery and sends a cross into the box from the right, but it is as simple as you like for Raya to gather under his crossbar.

Luton Town vs Arsenal

21:22

The hosts get us back under way at Kenilworth Road. Neither manager has made any changes to their personnel at half-time.

Luton Town vs Arsenal

21:14

Luton boss Edwards will be pretty happy with the overall first-half performance from his side. The hosts did well to disrupt play and keep Arsenal quiet for the majority of the half, although the Gunners did still manage to find a couple of goals. While there is still just the one goal in it, Town have a chance of taking a point from this game.

Luton Town vs Arsenal

21:09

Arsenal take a 2-1 lead into half-time thanks to goals from Martinelli and Jesus, either side of an Osho equaliser. A poor backpass from Bell forced Kaminski to play the ball out for a throw, which culminated in Saka teeing up Martinelli for the opener. Osho profited from some disappointing defending to power in a leveller five minutes later, only for Jesus to meet White's floated delivery from the right to restore his side's lead.

Luton Town vs Arsenal

HALF-TIME: LUTON TOWN 1-2 ARSENAL

Luton Town vs Arsenal

21:06

SHOT! Doughty brings the ball out of the sky brilliantly. A cross into the box is cut out for a corner, which Saliba gets to. Luton keep the attack alive and a powerful Mengi drive is right down the throat of Raya.

Luton Town vs Arsenal

21:04

Five minutes have been added on at the end of the first half. Arsenal will feel they are worthy of that lead, having forced Kaminsky into a few saves after being pegged back. Can the hosts respond before half-time?

Barkley goes sliding in on Martinelli to become the second Luton player to receive a booking. There was no reason for the midfielder to go to ground there.

Luton Town vs Arsenal

20:58

The Arsenal corner is cleared, but replays show that Kabore headed the ball onto his own arm when intervening. Nobody appeals for a penalty, but something very similar was given in PSG's favour against Newcastle last week.

Luton Town vs Arsenal

20:56

CLOSE! Kaminski is called into action again, this time to push aside Saka's curling effort. Saka is at the heart of every Arsenal attack.

Luton Town vs Arsenal

20:54

Saliba goes through Adebayo - that is proving to be a good tussle - and wins his side a free-kick. Luton have done well to disrupt Arsenal's play again over the past few minutes, just like they were doing when it was at 0-0.

Luton Town vs Arsenal

20:53

Kabore hits the ball into his own hand when trying to clear it and VAR briefly checks for a penalty, but that was never going to be given.

Luton Town vs Arsenal

20:51

The visitors are looking a little livelier in the attacking third now. If they were not aware of it beforehand, this is not going to be a walk in the park for them. White is frustratingly caught offside, allowing Luton to slow things down.

Luton Town vs Arsenal

20:49

Yellow Card Jacob Samuel Brown

Luton Town vs Arsenal

20:49

GREAT SAVE! Jesus does well to lay the ball into the path of Martinelli, who connects well with his shot. Kaminski gets a strong hand to it to deny the Brazilian. This is better from Arsenal.

Luton Town vs Arsenal

20:48

Arsenal have not won any of their last six Premier League away games when they have conceded at least once (D3 L3), since a 4-2 win at Aston Villa in February.

Luton Town vs Arsenal

20:47

We certainly have a contest on our hands at Kenilworth Road. Luton are giving as good as they get so far, and they are more than good value for their leveller.

Luton Town vs Arsenal

20:45

SAVE! That Luton goal was a shock to Arsenal's system, having taken the lead against the run of play a few moments beforehand. Jesus gets a shot away from a tight angle, which Kaminski keeps out for a corner that ultimately comes to nothing.

Luton Town vs Arsenal

20:34

White fails to keep a simple ball under control, not helped by the pressure he is being put under. Luton have actually been the better side over the past 10 minutes, albeit without creating much of note, a couple of cleared crosses aside.

Luton Town vs Arsenal

20:33

Arsenal have not found their rhythm at all, and that is entirely down to Luton. Kabore goes in hard on Martinelli to concede another free-kick - a perfect example of how the Hatters are managing to frustrate their opponents.

Luton Town vs Arsenal

20:31

Townsend gets to the byline, only for his cross to get cut out. Doughty fares no better as Arsenal deal with the second ball into the middle.

Luton Town vs Arsenal

20:31

A quarter of an hour into the contest and we have yet to see any efforts at either end. Luton boss Edwards will be pleased with how his side have kept Arsenal quiet, even if they have had 67 per cent of the ball.

Luton Town vs Arsenal

20:29

The Luton backroom staff are frantically pointing something out to Edwards on one of the laptops, presumably tactics related. The home side have enjoyed a rare spell of possession over the past couple of minutes, but that ends with a foul on Saka.

Luton Town vs Arsenal

20:26

Barkley catches Kiwior and in the process further disrupts Arsenal's rhythm. The visitors have bossed possession early on, but Luton are breaking up play with challenge after challenge - Saka the latest to be taken out.

Luton Town vs Arsenal

20:24

Martinelli is straight into the thick of the action, but his cross from the left is overhit. Luton try to get the ball forward but that attack fizzles out.

Luton Town vs Arsenal

20:23

The knee of Mengi went into the back of Martinelli, explaining the Brazilian's discomfort. After a bit of treatment, the Arsenal forward is back on the field.

Luton Town vs Arsenal

20:21

Mengi barges into the back of Martinelli, who goes to ground. There did not look to be a great deal in it on initial viewing, but the Arsenal physio is on the pitch.

Luton Town vs Arsenal

20:20

Rice sends the free-kick into a dangerous zone around the penalty spot, but a Luton player gets it clear. Barkley feels he is caught when trying to start a counter, but the referee disagrees.

Luton Town vs Arsenal

20:19

The visitors, as you would expect, have dominated possession in the early stages. Martinelli shows some great footwork and is wiped out by Townsend close to the touchline for an Arsenal free-kick.

Luton Town vs Arsenal

20:17

Arsenal get us up and running at Kenilworth Road! The Gunners are the strong favourites here, but Liverpool dropped two points here not so long ago.

Luton Town vs Arsenal

20:07

This is the first meeting between Luton Town and Arsenal in any competition since December 1991, with the Hatters prevailing 1-0 at Kenilworth Road. They would certainly take a repeat of that today in this tussle between sides with contrasting ambitions for the campaign. We are now just a few moments away from kick-off.

Luton Town vs Arsenal

19:59

Arsenal show three changes from their 2-1 win over Wolves on Saturday. Two of those alterations come in defence - or more specifically at full-back - as White and Kiwior replace Zinchenko and Takehiro Tomiyasu, the latter of whom is not in the squad. Havertz also returns to the starting line-up in place of the benched Trossard. Academy product Walters, yet to make his senior debut, is among the defensive cover on the bench.

Luton Town vs Arsenal

19:59

Edwards has made four changes to the Luton XI from their loss at Brentford three days ago. Brown has scored in his last two matches as a substitute and is handed a start in attack, while Adebayo is also restored to the frontline, with Ogbene and Morris dropping down to the bench. Former Tottenham winger Townsend and fit-again Doughty are the other two recalled players, taking the places of Chong and injured skipper Tom Lockyer, who is not in the squad.

Luton's sole focus is on staying in the top flight following their promotion from the Championship last season. Rob Edwards' men lost 3-1 away to Brentford at the weekend, but they have drawn with Liverpool and beaten Crystal Palace in their past two home matches. They enter this game two points clear of the relegation zone.

Luton Town vs Arsenal

19:45

Arsenal have won three Premier League games in a row to open up a two-point lead on Liverpool and a three-point advantage on reigning champions Manchester City.
