Lincoln goes 2-0 over weekend plus other boys basketball results from Friday and Saturday

LINCOLN 46, LANPHIER 43: At Roy S. Anderson Gym, Lincoln built a 16-point lead in the second quarter and held off Lanphier in a nonconference matchup.

Lincoln swept the season series when it defeated Lanphier 55-54 in what was a Central State Eight Conference game that opened the new Lober-Nika Gym on Jan. 12.

The Railers (20-7) started hot by hitting 13 of 19 shots in the first half and led 30-15 at halftime. Lanphier responded in the third quarter by hitting 7 of 8 shots and outscoring Lincoln 16-0 to take a 31-30 lead heading into the fourth.

But the Railers connected on five of their last seven shots to seal the win. Trey Schilling led Lincoln with 15 points and Drew Hayes scored 12.

Despite shooting 65.5% (19-for-29), Lanphier lost its third straight game and dropped to 14-14. Shaun Hatchett Jr. made 7 of 10 shots and finished with 14 points and six rebounds. Jessie Bates III was a perfect 6-for-6 from the field and scored 12.

SPRINGFIELD HIGH 57, MATTOON 48: At Mattoon, Seth Impson and Kevin Crews Jr. each scored 14 points to help give the Senators a nonconference win.

Impson drilled three 3-pointers and made three free throws while Crews scored all his buckets inside the 3-point arc. Antone Rhinehouse added 12 points for the Senators (6-18).

Andrew Wetzel led the Green Wave (13-13) with 12 points while Bryce Jean notched 10.

PLEASANT PLAINS 42, BLOOMINGTON CENTRAL CATHOLIC 32: At the Sangamo vs. Illini Prairie Shootout, Cooper Schallenberg went 11-for-11 from the free throw line and scored a game-high 16 points to lead the Cardinals to a victory.

Schallenberg had seven points at halftime and was 9-for-9 on free throws in the second half. Plains led 20-19 at the half and limited Central Catholic (12-16) to four points in the third quarter to pull away.

Liam Hatfield had nine points and Owen Johnson hit a pair of 3-pointers in the first half and settled for eight. As a team, the Cardinals (12-13) made 18 of 22 free throws.

TOLONO UNITY 70, AUBURN 57: At the Sangamo vs. Illini Prairie Shootout, Class 2A fifth-ranked Tolono Unity used a big second half to ice the game.

The Rockets shot 58.6% (17-for-29) in the second half and outscored the Trojans 41-26 after the game was tied at 31-all at halftime. Auburn made 13 of 21 (.619) shots in the first half but went 1-for-9 in the final quarter.

Cooper Carter had three 3-pointers and led Auburn (22-4) with 18 points. Carter Hunley supplied 16 points and Clayton Kessler tallied 10.

Mason O’Neill made six of Tolono Unity’s 10 three-pointers. He scored a game-high 24 points on 9 of 16 shooting.

PONTIAC 65, NEW BERLIN 56 (2OT): At the Sangamo vs. Illini Prairie Shootout, Pontiac outscored the Pretzels 14-5 in the second overtime to secure the win.

New Berlin rallied from eight points down after three quarters and Jacob Roberts nailed a 3-pointer with six seconds left in regulation and tied the game at 47 apiece to force overtime. Gannon Dodd forced a second overtime when he made a layup and evened the score 51-51 with 1:35 remaining in the first OT.

Dodd drilled three 3-pointers and led the Pretzels (19-7) with 19 points. Roberts finished with two 3s and chipped in 11, while Lucas Bixby and Aydin Littig followed with nine apiece.

Pontiac’s Riley Weber scored a game-high 20 points, including going 9-for-11 from the free throw line, and he also grabbed 13 rebounds. Kerr Bauman went 7-for-8 from the line and scored 19 and teammate Henry Brummel nailed four 3s and netted 16 to go with nine boards.

FAIRBURY PRAIRIE CENTRAL 71, WILLIAMSVILLE 52: At the Sangamo vs. Illini Prairie Shootout, Prairie Central put four players in double figures and corralled the Bullets.

Garrett Timm had five 3-pointers and 15 points and Carson Kohler also scored 15 for Williamsville in the loss. Brayden Saling had 11 as the Bullets dropped to 17-7.

Prairie Central (15-10) got 20 points apiece from Levi Goad and Tyler Curl. Curl drilled three 3-pointers and Avery Eldar made four from long range and scored a career-high 14 points. Talen Steidinger had 10 for the Hawks.

ST. JOSEPH OGDEN 74, RIVERTON 49: At the Sangamo vs. Illini Prairie Shootout, opened the game with a 25-point first quarter and went on to knock off Riverton.

St. Joe (21-6) made 8 of 10 shots in the first period. The Spartans led 25-15 after one and four players finished in double digits. Coy Taylor had 14 points and Logan Smith and Tanner Siems registered 13 apiece. Tanner Jacob scored 10.

Julian Rice was 4-for-4 from 3-point territory and finished 7-for-11 from the floor to score a game-high 19 points for Riverton (20-5). Jason Miller chipped in 10 in the loss.  

MONTICELLO 49, ATHENS 42: At the Sangamo vs. Illini Prairie Shootout, Monticello outscored Athens 17-6 in the third period and it was enough to get the win.

The game went into halftime tied 18-all. In a losing effort, Cody Tobias went 4-for-8 from beyond the arc and led Athens (15-11) with 12 points. Pryor Reynolds added 10.

Trey Walter scored 15 points and Jack Weidner delivered 10 for Monticello (12-11).

RANTOUL 51, PETERSBURG PORTA 40: At the Sangamo vs. Illini Prairie Shootout, Griffin McClure’s game-high 22-point effort wasn’t enough as the Bluejays fell.

McClure made 8 of 16 shots, including 5-for-8 from 3-point range. No one else for PORTA (12-14) scored more than four points.

DJ Davis put in three 3s and led Rantoul (5-15) with 17 points.

CHILLICOTHE ILLINOIS VALLEY CENTRAL 50, MASON CITY ILLINI CENTRAL 43: At the Sangamo vs. Illini Prairie Shootout, David Bard and Lucas Power combined for 34 points in the Cougars’ loss.

Bard (four 3-pointers) and Power (three 3s) had 20 and 14 points, respectively. Cole Yates dialed up three treys and finished with a team-high 19 points for Illinois Valley (15-11).

Illini Central dropped to 11-14.

SOUTH COUNTY 45, NORTH MAC 37: At Waverly, South County sank 11 of 14 free throws in the fourth quarter and capped off a nonconference win.

The game was tied 30-30 entering the final period. NoahLyons and Trevor Colwell (eight points) both made 5 of 6 free throws in the fourth. Lyons ended with 16 points and Caden Colwell scored nine. Clark Nelson had eight points for South County (19-7).

Payne McClean put in four 3s to lead North Mac (9-14) with 16 points and J.T. Alexander scored 12.

MOUNT ZION 71, JACKSONVILLE 41: At The Bowl, Class 3A fifth-ranked Mount Zion dropped in nine 3-pointers and finished with some balanced scoring in a nonconference victory.

Lyncoln Koester hit three 3s and scored 17 for Mount Zion, which improved to 24-1. Grant McAtee scored 16 points, JC Anderson added 12 and Sammy Driscoll delivered three 3s and nine points.

Jacksonville (11-16) had one player in double figures in Isaiah Martinez, who notched four 3s and scored 14 points.

BELLEVILLE WEST 69, SOUTHEAST 50: At Herb Scheffler Gymnasium, Nicholas Hankins Jr. and Brandon Scott combined for 40 points to lead the Maroons past the Spartans in a nonconference game.

Belleville West (14-12) put three players in double scoring figures. Hankins led the way with 21 while Scott had 19. Myles Liddell threw in 16 as the Maroons won their third game in a row.

Carlos Day, Dom Hobbs and Reggie Rice combined for 33 points for Southeast. Day scored 13 points and knocked down three 3-pointers. Hobbs and Rice each had 10.

Southeast has lost six games in a row and fell to 8-19.

TAYLORVILLE 52, PANA 50: At Dolph Stanley Court, Baron Odam had a team-high 14 points and teammates Dillon Clark and Drake Howard added nine apiece as Taylorville (5-20) won its fifth game.

Clayton Worker totaled 14 points and Cash Lynch made two 3-pointers and produced 11 for Pana (7-19).

RAYMOND LINCOLNWOOD 45, CARLINVILLE 37: At the Big House in Carlinville, Brady Schmedeke scored 13 of his game-high 20 points in the first half as the Lancers won a nonconference road game.

Schmedeke finished up his night with five more points in the fourth quarter to hold off a Carlinville rally.

Jonah Elvidge added seven for the Lancers (13-11).

Triston Thompson was 7-for-10 at the free-throw line and led the Cavaliers (12-14) with 13 points. Cole Sullivan added 10 and connected on the Cavs' only two 3-pointers.

NOKOMIS 59, HILLSBORO 57: At Hillsboro, Kennedy DeWerff hit five 3-pointers and scored 22 points as Nokomis won a nonconference game between a pair of Montgomery County teams.

Reece Lohman added 12 points for Nokomis while teammate Saint Newman led the squad with seven rebounds.

Nathan Matoush led Hillsboro with 25 points, including 12 on four 3s and a 5-for-5 night at the free-throw line. Jackson Tuetken and Mitchell Lowe each had 10 points for the Hiltoppers who outscored Nokomis 20-13 in the fourth to make for an exciting finish.

ROCHESTER 61, CHARLESTON 38: At Charleston, Eli Cox and Henry Buecker combined for 28 points as the Rockets ended a three-game losing streak in a nonconference win.

Cox scored 16 points to lead the Rockets (12-16) while Buecker added 12.

Rochester's Canon Bruce finished with nine points while Nate Swaney and Jack Melton finished with eight apiece.

Adam Rudibaugh led the Trojans (10-15) with 15 points.

CALVARY 67, NOKOMIS 53: At Calvary, Luke Blackford shot 10 of 17 from the field and generated a game-high 34 points to carry the Saints closer to the outright MSM Conference title.

Calvary (18-8, 7-0 MSM) can clinch at least a share of the league crown against Raymond Lincolnwood on Friday, Feb. 9 before visiting Pawnee on Feb. 16.

Blackford staved off Nokomis senior Reece Lohman, who supplied 33 points and six rebounds in the loss.

Blackford, who already has more than 1,000-career points as a sophomore, hit two 3s, went 12 of 13 from the free throw line and contributed seven rebounds, three steals and three blocks to boot. He furnished 22 points after the break.

Senior teammate Connor Brown ushered 14 points, five rebounds, six assists and seven steals. The Saints totaled 14 steals. Reese Huffman threaded three 3-pointers and finished with 11 points, six rebounds and three blocks while Joshua Long had six points.

Lohman flourished throughout the night. He evened the contest at 31-all with the team’s first eight points out of the locker room. His dunk midway through the fourth quarter trimmed the deficit to 50-44, but the team’s spate of turnovers caught up to NHS (11-15, 4-2) in the end.

LINCOLN 55, DECATUR EISENHOWER 31: At Roy S. Anderson Gym, Lincoln outscored Eisenhower 20-5 in the third quarter and shot 83.3% from the field in the second half of a Central State Eight Conference game.

After making 7 of 17 shots and taking a modest 17-13 advantage into halftime, the Railers got hot after intermission, making 15 of 18 shots.

Drew Hayes was the catalyst for Lincoln as he was 9-for-10 from the floor and scored a game-high 21 points. Karson Komnick added nine points and Gabe Smith chipped in eight and the Railers improved to 19-7 overall and 8-1 in the CS8.

Tishawn Clemmons led Eisenhower (10-13, 4-7) with 14 points and made a pair of 3-pointers. The Panthers finished shooting 35.7% (10-for-28).

CHATHAM GLENWOOD 59, SOUTHEAST 31: At Herb Scheffler Gym, Glenwood took a 34-13 lead into the break and later triggered a running clock in the fourth quarter of a Central State Eight Conference triumph.

The Titans (16-8 overall, 7-2 in the CS8) made 10 of 19 shots by halftime, including 4-for-8 from 3-point range. Glenwood outscored Southeast 19-3 as the Spartans went 1-for-14 from the floor in the second period.

The running clock was triggered when Glenwood led 55-23 with about 6 minutes, 30 seconds remaining. Cameron Appenzeller led the Titans with 13 points and Jack Dettro (two 3-pointers) scored 10. Mason Neumann (eight rebounds) and Mason Marshall recorded eight points apiece.

Dom Hobbs led the Spartans (8-19, 2-7) with 10 points and Southeast went 10-for-42 (.238) from the field.

SACRED HEART-GRIFFIN 55, JACKSONVILLE 44: At The Bowl in Jacksonville, SHG turned the game in its favor with a 20-point third quarter and sealed a Central State Eight Conference win.

Zion Lee and Jamarion Bardwell both made a 3-pointer and had five points each in the third as the Cyclones (9-15 overall, 2-7 in the CS8) erased a one-point halftime deficit to go into the fourth with a 40-35 lead. Bardwell made 4 of 6 free throws in the final quarter and scored six to help cap the win.

Lee finished with three 3-pointers to conclude with a game-high 18 points, while Bardwell scored 13. Bryce Musgrave had two 3s and contributed 12.

Milan Krusic and Isaiah Martinez combined for 30 points, and both had two 3s for Jacksonville (11-15, 3-6). Krusic had a team-high 16 points and Martinez followed with 14.

NORMAL U-HIGH 74, LANPHIER 45: At Normal, the Pioneers shot a blistering 65.2% from the floor and rolled in the second half to post a Central State Eight Conference victory.

U-High (18-7 overall, 6-3 in the CS8) made 30 of 46 shots. The Pioneers led 31-26 at the half and then outscored the Lions 43-19 after intermission.

Miles Kiran finished 10-for-12 from the field, went 5-for-6 from the line and scored a game-best 25 points to go with eight rebounds. Mason Hooper-Willis made 6 of 8 shots and added 14 points.

Lanphier (14-13, 8-4) was 7-for-33 in the second half and ended shooting 32.7%. Jesse Bates III had a team-high 11 points, and the Lions were outrebounded 31-20.

DECATUR MACARTHUR 66, ROCHESTER 48: At Decatur, the Central State Eight Conference-leading Generals pulled away from the Rockets in the second half for a convincing win.

Rochester trailed 38-30 at halftime by keeping it close with five 3-pointers. The Rockets (11-16 overall, 3-6 in the CS8) finished with eight 3s but were outscored 28-18 in the second half.

Kai Bruce and Canon Bruce combined for six 3s and each scored 12 points for Rochester. Eli Cox scored 11 points and Henry Buecker added 10 in the loss.

Sean Lee dropped in a game-high 23 points for MacArthur (20-3, 11-0). MJ Murphy was 10-for-10 from the foul line and scored 12 and Stevie Tatum also had 12 points as the Generals wrapped up the game by making 18 of 20 free throws.

ATHENS 53, MAROA-FORSYTH 51: At Athens, Pryor Reynolds scored 16 second-half points to lead the Warriorsto a Sangamo Conference win.

Athens (15-10 overall, 2-3 in the Sangamo) trailed 30-25 at halftime until Reynolds provided a spark and finished with 20 points. Zac Laird had 14 points in the victory.

Kaiden Maurer provided Maroa-Forsyth (15-8, 2-2) with a team-high 17 points. Zayne Giles had just four points after halftime and scored 14, while Cody Lane ended with 11 points.

PLEASANT PLAINS 56, WILLIAMSVILLE 46 (OT): At Plains, Liam Hatfield sent the game into overtime with a bucket and the Cardinals dominated the extra period for a Sangamo Conference victory.

Plains started overtime on a 10-0 run.

Grady Grisham scored the go-ahead basket while Cooper Schallenberg extended the lead with a 3-pointer before adding two free throws for a 48-41 advantage.

Schallenberg dropped in a game-high 23 points and Hatfield added an additional 19 as Plains upped its record to 11-13 overall and 3-2 in the Sangamo.

In a losing effort, Brecken Thomas led Williamsville (17-6, 2-2) with 22 points. The Bullets trailed 32-27 at the start of the fourth quarter.

RIVERTON 57, PETERSBURG PORTA/A-C CENTRAL 30: At the Hawk Center, Jaxson Miller contributed 11 points in Riverton's Sangamo Conference win.

The Hawks improved to 20-4 overall and 4-1 in the league.

NEW BERLIN 53, STANFORD OLYMPIA 48: At the Pretzel Dome, Tanner Frye manufactured 16 points while Gannon Dodd had 12 in the Sangamo Conference win.

New Berlin (19-6, 4-1 Sangamo) withstood Olympia’s 9-1 run at the start of the fourth quarter after gaining a 39-30 advantage through three.

AUBURN 66, MASON CITY ILLINI CENTRAL 31: At Doglio Gym, the host Trojans led 27-18 at halftime before rolling to a 50-24 lead through three quarters. Auburn improved to 22-3 overall and 4-1 in the Sangamo Conference.

LITCHFIELD 61, HILLSBORO 36: At Litchfield, the Purple Panthers used a big third quarter and ran away to register a South Central Conference win.

Litchfield outscored Hillsboro 20-9 in the third after leading 25-19 at the half. Victor McGill scored all 16 of his points in the second half for the Panthers, who improved to 17-10 overall and 5-0 in the SCC. AJ Odle knocked down three 3-pointers and chipped in 11, while Keenan Powell was next with nine points.

Nathan Matoush led Hillsboro (9-17, 3-2) with 14 points.

CARLINVILLE 42, STAUNTON 39: At Staunton, Sawyer Smith netted 16 of his 18 points in the first half and it was enough for the Cavaliers to post a South Central Conference win.

Triston Thompson scored eight points and Tate Duckels had six second-half points for Carlinville (12-13 overall, 2-3 in the SCC).

Staunton (14-11, 2-3) received three 3-pointers and 17 points from Isiah Laux.

HAVANA 36, CUBA NORTH FULTON 28: At Havana, Jaron Boggs and Luke Smith tallied six points each in the fourth quarter to help Havana pull out a nonconference win.

Boggs finished with two 3-pointers and a game-high 17 points and Smith scored 11. Havana led 24-23 after three quarters before outscoring North Fulton 12-5 in the fourth.

PIASA SOUTHWESTERN 53, PANA 51 (OT): At Piasa, the Birds outscored the Panthers 9-7 in overtime and eked out a South Central Conference victory.

Ian Brantley scored 21 points to pace Southwestern (18-8 overall, 4-1 in the SCC) and Ryan Lowis drained four 3-pointers to finish with 14. Rocky Darr had five points with a 3 in overtime and scored nine.

Pana (7-18, 2-3) got five 3s and 21 points from Brayden Carlson. Clayton Worker had two treys and 12 points.

SOUTH COUNTY 52, BUFFALO TRI-CITY/SANGAMON VALLEY 32: At Buffalo, Noah Lyons poured in a game-high 25 points and the Vipers rolled to an MSM Victory.

Caden Colwell had nine points for South County (19-7 overall, 7-1 in the MSM). RJ Sullivan made a pair of 3-pointers to pace Tri-City with eight points.

CAMP POINT CENTRAL 71, RUSHVILLE-INDUSTRY 40: At Rushville, Nick Moore led four Camp Point players in double-figures with a game-high 26 points in a West Central Conference win.

Reed Fretueg buried four 3-pointers and compiled 18 points for Rushville-Industry.
