LSU women’s basketball remains in top five in AP Poll after loss to South Carolina

The magical run of perfection for the LSU women’s basketball team came to an end on Sunday as the No. 1-ranked, defending national champion South Carolina Gamecocks spoiled a program-record 23-0 start with an 88-64 win in Columbia.

Despite the loss, though, not much changed for the Tigers as far as the national picture goes. Kim Mulkey’s team dropped two spots in the latest AP Top 25 from No. 3 to No. 5, meaning this team at least ostensibly remains in range for a No. 1 seed despite the loss.

LSU should be favored in every remaining regular-season contest, but this team needs to boost its resume. A potential rematch against South Carolina in the SEC Tournament may be this team’s best hope of reaching the top seed line, but regardless, the future remains bright for this team in Mulkey’s second season.
