LSU baseball bounces back with a win against Sam Houston State

After LSU lost its first game of the season on Saturday against Iowa, many wondered how the No. 1 Tigers would react to the stunning loss as they finished the Round Rock Classic on Sunday.

It was bombs away against Sam Houston State as LSU used the long ball to bounce back for a win to finish the Classic’s finale. The Tigers answered any questions about the validity of their No. 1 overall ranking with a drubbing of the Bearkats, 16-4.

Brayden Jobert got it started early as he hit a two-run homer in the first inning to get LSU started off right. In the second inning, LSU scored five runs thanks to a Jordan Thompson RBI single, a 2-RBI double for Dylan Crews, and another two-run blast by Jobert to make it 7-0 after two innings.

In the top of the third inning, LSU scored three more runs as Jared Jones hit a solo shot down the left field line and Crews hit a 2-RBI single to make the score 10-0 after three innings. In the top of the fourth inning, Thompson hit an RBI single that scored two runs thanks to an error to make it 12-0 Tigers. In the bottom of the inning, the Bearkats finally got on the board as they scored three runs on Bryce Collins to put the 10-run lead in jeopardy.

In the top of the fifth, Jobert hit an RBI single to score Crews and give the Tigers a chance at ending the weekend with a double-digit victory. Brady Neal scored on a Ben Nippolt single in the top of the sixth to increase the lead to 14-3.

In the top of the seventh inning, Tre Morgan hit an RBI single up the middle to score Crews and increase the Tiger lead to 15-3. In the bottom of the inning, the Bearkats hit a solo homer off of Garrett Edwards to trim the lead to 15-4, but that is all they could manage.

In the top of the ninth inning, LSU scored another run thanks to a groundout by Morgan that scored Josh Stevenson.

With the win, LSU moves to 6-1 on the year. Its next game is Tuesday evening when it travels to Austin, Texas, to take on the Texas Longhorns.
