BOYS TENNIS

Division I quarterfinals

No. 3 Lincoln 4, No. 6 Mount St. Charles 0

While its four singles players were engaged in tough battles, the Lions’ doubles teams came through in a big way with three wins, earning them a 4-0 win over the Mounties.

Lincoln’s three doubles teams took care of business. It started with a 6-0, 6-1 win by Logan Brown and Brayden Brouillard at No. 2 and after No. 4 singles player Ryan Lemery came up with a 6-3, 6-3 win, the Lions grabbed a third point at No. 3 doubles when Will Aiken and Andrew Picozzi closed out a 7-6 (4), 6-2 victory.

With two of the remaining singles match in a third set and the other potentially going there, the No. 1 doubles team of Nick Ganim and Adam Giuffrida ended the drama with a huge 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 win.

Lincoln advances to the semifinals and will play No. 2 La Salle next week.

BOYS LACROSSE

Division I quarterfinals

No. 3 Hendricken 11, No. 6 Mount St. Charles 10

Nick Senecal played the role of hero for the Hawks, winning the opening faceoff in overtime and taking it down the field and scoring the game-winning goal in the 11-10 win over the Mounties.

Next up for Hendricken is a matchup against No. 2 Moses Brown, a team the Hawks beat in their final matchup of the regular season.

Division II quarterfinals

No. 4 Cumberland 7, No. 5 South Kingstown 2

Both defenses dominated, but Sean Taylor and the Clippers closed strong with an impressive fourth quarter that gave them a 7-2 win over the Rebels.

Cumberland got two first-quarter goals from Gavyn Freiberger and one from Taylor, but couldn’t muster any more in the second and led SK 3-2 at the break.

Taylor came up with a goal in the third quarter and added two more in the fourth to help ice the game. Freshman Dylan Fitzgerald didn’t score a goal for the Clippers, but made his impact in the face-off circle with a 100 percent success rate. Freiberger had his two goals and Sam Asermely accounted for the other goal.

Hampton Hubbard and Zach Brunelli scored the goals for South Kingstown, which kept things close thanks to the impressive play in net from Sean McGregor.

Cumberland advances to next week’s semifinals and will take on No. 1 Pilgrim in Warwick.

GIRLS LACROSSE

Division I

No. 3 Portsmouth 17, No. 6 Barrington 12

The Patriots put on an offensive display, outgunning the Eagles to pick up a 17-12 win.

Sophia Sebolt was the star for Portsmouth scoring seven goals in the win. Emilie Bobola and Stella Orr both scored three goals, Margaux Boneu had a pair and Talus Nightingale and Nora Cooney both added tallies.

Seven different players scored for Barrington in the loss, led by three goals from Anna Lombardi and Emily Horn.

Portsmouth is on to its second straight Division I semifinal and will play at No. 2 La Salle next week.

Division II

No. 3 Burrillville 17, No. 6 Smithfield 6

Emilia Ferraro paced the Broncos’ offense from start to finish and the defense handled things on the other end in a 17-6 win over the Sentinels.

Ferraro was a force all afternoon and scored six goals, helping Burrillville build a comfortable first-half lead before running away with things in the second half. Olivia Fullam added three goals and Jenna Corrao and Olivia Handy were instrumental on the defensive side of the field, keeping Smithfield from putting together runs to get back in the game.

The Broncos will have to wait until Friday evening to find out who they’ll play in the Division II semifinals, getting the winner of the postponed game between No. 7 Toll Gate and No. 2 Chariho.

No. 4 Cumberland 17, No. 5 Middletown 12

After seeing their lead dip at halftime, the Clippers made things more comfortable in the third quarter before finishing strong in a 17-12 win over the Islanders.

Cumberland led 4-2 after the first quarter, but grew the lead to 8-4 before Middletown popped two goals late to cut the deficit to two at halftime.

Gwen Ross was the focal point of the Clippers’ first-half attack and with the defense locked in on her, it allowed her teammates to cook. Cumberland spread the scoring out in the second half, built a four-plus goal lead it was able to maintain before Ross put the exclamation point on the win with a goal with 9.4 seconds left to play.

Ross led Cumberland with seven goals and Izzy Beitler had three. Brooke Tellier, Emily Bourke and Lucy Biggs scored two goals apiece and Abby Skurka dished out five assists.

Middletown got three goals from Teresa Remy and two from Lola Gray in defeat.

The Clippers advance to the semifinals and will travel to play top-seeded North Kingstown – a team they lost to in overtime earlier this season – next week.

Division III

No. 5 Bay View 8, No. 4 East Providence 7

In a rematch of last year’s Division III final, the defending champs continued their quest toward a second straight title as Kate Shields was huge in next and the Bengals’ offense got the job done in an 8-7 win over the Townies.

East Providence was out for revenge, but Shields prevented the scoreboard from changing too often and finished with 15 saves in the win. Maggie Lima led Bay View with four goals, Annabelle Tracy scored three and Payton Sullivan added one.

Kenna Wigginton led East Providence with five goals and Kloey Iacovone and Alyssa Karalekas scored the other two. Ava Williams made 11 saves in the loss.

Bay View moves on to the semifinals and will take on top-seeded Westerly on Tuesday night.

Division IV

No. 3 Tiverton 13, No. 6 Scituate 6

The Tigers found themselves in quite a battle in the first half, but dominated the final two quarters to pull out a 13-6 win over the Spartans.

Tiverton and Scituate played a back-and-forth affair in the first two quarters and went to halftime tied at six. Whatever speech Tigers’ coach Rachel Motta gave worked, because they dominated on the offensive side of the field and didn’t give up a goal, outscoring Scituate 7-0 in the final two quarters.

Zoe Peckham was Tiverton’s top goal scorer, getting six in the game. Julia Polofsky was right behind her with five goals and one assist. Maeve McHugh finished with six assists and Elyse Meyers made 11 saves in goal.

Norah Clarke led Scituate with three goals and one assist. Ella Bailey, Sam Duarte and Nichole Roberti also scored.

Tiverton moves on to next week’s semifinals and will hit the road to take on No. 2 Classical.

No. 4 Lincoln 10, No. 5 Coventry 9

The Lions came from behind in the second half to force overtime where Faith Miguel became the hero with a goal with 1:23 left to pick up a 10-9 win over the Oakers and earn a spot in the D-IV semifinals.

Coventry had Lincoln on its heels in the first half and led 7-3 before the Lions roared back in the third quarter, sending the game to the fourth quarter tied at seven.

The Oakers led 9-8 with under one minute left when Miguel made her first big play of the game, racing toward the crease and getting the game-tying goal with 20 seconds left to send the game to overtime.

In the second half of the first overtime, Spencer Cameron found Miguel, who converted the goal and kept Lincoln’s season going.

Miguel led the Lions with five goals and Taylor Marsh scored two. Meg Delisle took over in goal in the second half and was instrumental in the Lincoln comeback.

Grace Koszela led Coventry with four goals and Hailey Duggan scored three while Amber Mattera had two in the loss.

Lincoln moves on to the semifinals and will travel to play top-seeded North Smithfield next week.

BOYS VOLLEYBALL

Division II

Lincoln 3, Pilgrim 0

Wayne McNamara paced the Lions with 15 kills and 16 digs in the win, 25-21, 25-17, 25-19. For the Patriots, Jake Graham had 6 kills.

Division III

Toll Gate 3, Burrillville 0

The play of Jayden Glover (5 kills, 6 aces and 12 assists), Michael Pella-Sabourin (8 kills, 3 aces) and Austin Scotti (5 kills, 2 aces) helped the Titans sweep the Broncos in the final game of the regular season for both clubs.
