lohud football rankings: Ardsley climbs into Top 10 ahead of Friday showdown at Rye

The scoreboard watching is officially underway.

We're only a couple of weeks away from the playoffs in Section 1, so a number of teams are looking to lock up home field or just make the bracket.

There is one very important matchup this week that will impact seeding. Ardsley, which is undefeated, is heading for Rye, which is beginning to heat up. There's a chance they could meet again in the Class B playoffs.

10. Ardsley (5-0)

The Panthers don't have a single headliner in the lineup. This group is just stubborn across the board and has a chance to steal the spotlight this week.

9. Rye (4-2)

The list of starters in street clothes is getting shorter every week, so the Garnets should be full speed when undefeated Ardsley stops by for an important Class B matchup.

8. John Jay-East Fishkill (5-1)

The Patriots broke out in the second and third quarters of a 34-13 win over North Rockland on Friday and kept themselves in play for a share of the league title.

7. Pleasantville (5-0)

Daniel Picart is up to 1,006 all-purpose yards. That's 605 rushing yards, 267 receiving yards and 134 return yards. He's also gotten into the end zone a dozen times so far.

6. Yorktown (6-0)

Staying in the moment is going to be a topic of conversation all week. Looking ahead to a Week 7 clash against Somers would be a costly mistake.

5. Iona Prep (3-3)

The defense is in a good place after giving the Gaels a legitimate chance to win against Stepinac. The next challenge is Cardinal Hayes quarterback Rich Belin.

4. Carmel (4-1)

The offensive line is winning again and again. In a 17-6 comeback win over Mamaroneck on Saturday, the XXL guys cleared the way for 458 rushing yards.

3. Stepinac (4-2)

The Crusaders struggled to get any traction Saturday against Iona Prep for three quarters, but this offense is still averaging 400 yards per game.

2. Somers (5-1)

Mac Sullivan is a lot to deal with when the Tuskers get into the red zone. The senior quarterback has thrown for 13 touchdowns and run for six more scores.

1. Arlington (6-0)

The schedule clearly impacts the numbers, but it's worth noting the Admirals are averaging 11.7 yards per carry and 24.2 yards per completion. Those are impressive totals no matter who's on the opposite sideline.
