Lockport captures five first-place finishes to take second at Class A meet

Oct. 28—Lockport took second place behind five first-place finishes at the Section VI Class A swimming championships.

The Lions scored 275 points, behind champion Orchard Park, which tallied 402. Clarence was third with 274, while Kenmore was fourth with 229 and Williamsville North was fifth with 222.

Sam Call captured three championships, racing to a win in the 200-yard individual medley in 2:14.90, nearly 4 seconds faster than the rest of the field. She also won the 100 butterfly in 1:00.53, while joining Leah Gaskill, Madeleine Martino and Ellie Gaskill to win the 200 medley relay in 1:51.19, nipping Orchard Park by 0.48 seconds.

Leah Gaskill won the 50 freestyle in 24.07 seconds, a time that is now the best in all of Section VI.

Niagara Wheatfield's Mira Keller won the 200 freestyle in 1:52.95, nearly 3 seconds faster than Kenmore's Amelia MacKinnon for the best time in Section VI. Keller won the 100 freestyle in 51.78 seconds, which is also the top time in the section.

Teammate Ava Pauly won the 100 breaststroke in 1:06.33.

NT's Roberts sits atop Section VI leaderboard after two wins in Class B

North Tonawanda nipped Starpoint by two points for fourth place at the Class B championship meet.

The Lumberjacks tallied 205 points, behind first-place Williamsville East (438). Amherst was second (285), while Williamsville South took third with 210.

North Tonawanda's Meredith Roberts won 100 breaststroke in 1:05.85, which is the best time in Section VI this season and was nearly 5 seconds faster than the rest of the field in the meet. Roberts also won the 200 IM in 2:11.75, topping Williamsville South's Fiona Reilly by more than 5 seconds.

Starpoint's Kylie Kwoka placed second in the 50 freestyle in 25.63, while also taking second in the 500 freestyle in 5:12.97. Teammate Keira Curvin was second in the 100 backstroke in 1:00.85.

Lew-Port's Marcyan wins a pair of events in Class C

Lewiston-Porter's Chloe Marcyan won a pair of events at the Class C championship meet as the Lancers swam to a seventh-place finish.

Lew-Port tallied 97 points, while champion East Aurora cruised to a win with 366 points.

Marcyan won the 200 freestyle in 2:00.78, nearly 4 seconds faster than Frewsburg's Cara Pillittieri. She followed that with a win in the 100 butterfly, with her time of 1:00.99 being more than a second faster than East Aurora's Susannah Winfield.

Sydney Jokic was second in the 100 backstroke (1:00.28), a half second off of East Aurora's champion, Erin Zagrobelny.
