Locally...Muskingum Fishing Club to hold tournament

Muskingum Fishing Club holding tournament

The Muskingum Fishing Club will hold another fundraiser bass tournament on July 9 at the Tappan Boat Ramp, 32489 US 250, Scio, OH 43988.

Registration is from 5 to 6 a.m. with the tournament going from 6:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Entry fee is $90 with 75% payout to the top three placers. There will also be multiple raffles, and the limit is 5 bass over 12 inches with a 1 pound dead fish penalty.

The top placer wins a Googan squad spinning combo. For more information, contact Cody Lauffer at 740-459-8001.

Junior Bishops Soccer Camp to be in July

The Jr. Bishops Soccer Camp will be July 24-26 and run from 5:30-7 p.m. each day at the fields behind Rosecrans High School. Camp is for players entering K thru 8th grade.

Cost is $40 per camper and a camp shirt is included. Current coaches, players and alumni will conduct the camp.

Nash-Neff Golf Outing approaching

The New Lexington Elks Lodge No. 509 will host the annual Nash-Neff Memorial Scholarship golf outing on Saturday, June 24 at Perry Country Club.

Cost is $50 for the open division and $30 for the senior division (55 and older). The format is six holes of one-man best ball, six holes of two-man best ball and six holes of scramble.

Morning and afternoon tee times are available. For more information, call the course at 740-342-1781 or stop by the course to register.

Goins Memorial Scholarship Scramble nearing

The fifth annual Myron and Ruth Goins Memorial Scholarship Foundation will hold an 18-hole golf scramble on July 9, at Fuller’s Fairways. Cost is $220 per team. Anyone interested should contact 740-452-0153 or 740-586-7032, or email gmconstruction@columbus.rr.com.

Five scholarships will also be awarded to five graduated high school seniors at the beginning of the tournament. Requirements for the scholarship include an accumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher, enrollment into a 2 or 4 year accredited college in the fall of 2023, and a resume which will need to include what college the student will attend, and a description of future goals.

All applications must be sent to the “Myron and Ruth Goins Memorial Foundation” by mail to 703 Pershing Rd., Zanesville, OH 43701. Deadline for the application is June 23.

Muskingum Golf Outing to be in July

The Muskingum University Athletic Department is hosting its annual golf outing at 9:30 a.m. July 14 at EagleSticks Golf Club.

Cost is $135 per golfer or $500 per foursome and includes 18 holes of golf, drink tickets, raffles, and dinner. All proceeds from the event benefit Muskie student-athletes. Additionally, the event will feature a golf ball drop contest $10 per ball with a chance to win $1,000 if your ball lands closest to the hole or in the hole.

Scores from area youth leagues

In Muskingum Valley 12U Baseball, Tri Valley's Elite Logging defeats Y-CIty's All State 17-0. Alex Patterson had a single, double, and a home run in the game. Austin Sine hit a single and a double, Grant Wilson added a double and Javon Walker hit two singles for the game.

Tri Valley's Elite Logging had a great game in defeating River View Black 10-1. The winners were led by Alex Patterson's 2 home runs and a double and Gavin Hindel's 2 singles and a double. AJ Pusz, Grant Wilson, & Javon Walker each singled twice. Cohen Caynor & Tucker Stires both had big time singles in key spots to help in the win.

Golf League Results

At Zanesville Country Club, the Charlie Goelz League played a scramble on Wednesday. Lucas Graham and Nate Embrey won with 31, while Kevin Miller, Jason Rosser, Dan Bogle and Bryan Graham were second with 32 and Doug Waltman, Eric Holsky, Othello Repuyan and Dave Grosshandler were third with 33. Longest putt on No. 17 was Steve Baldwin with 16-feet-5, and Tom Sulens was Closest to the Pin on No. 18 (1-foot-9). Goelz Cup Points Leaders are Bryan Graham at 12 and Steve Baldwin, Nate Embrey and Lucas Graham at 8.

At Crystal Springs, Tommy Georgiades shot low gross of 38 and Doug Geyer posted low net of 32 in the A Division of the Crystal Springs Golf Club and Community Bank Monday Morning Senior League. Winning Teams were 11-12-7-2-14-3-13-4.

In the B Division, Steve Hartmeyer and John Williams tied for low gross at 37 and Williams and Randy Hoopes tied for low net of 33. Winning teams were 8-4-12-1-6-5-14, and 13 7 10 tied.

At Vista, Rocky King shot low gross of 33 with Brent Bunting at 34, Chuck Ford 35 and Greg Clapper 37 in the Palmer Division of the Senior League. Low net was Roy Cox with 28, King and Tom Denton with 30 and Ford and Mike Cohagen with 31. Division leaders: Mike Matz & Rocky Carr 18.5 points, Brent Bunting & Dave Cox 17, Rocky Brownfield & John Crown 16, Rocky King & Greg Meadows 15.

In the Nicklaus Division, John Kay fired 37 for low gross with Mike Firman, Danny Fulks and Alan Brookover at 40. Low net was 29 by Dave Purkey and Firman and 30 by Barry Sheets and Marvin Miller. Division leaders: Bob Reed & John Kay 16, Dave Phillips & Tom Starner 14.5, Ed Middaugh & Rollie Kanavel 14 and Ron Shirer & Steve Clark 13.

At Green Valley, Debbi Bollinger posted low gross of 38 and low net of 23 in the Edward Jones/Scott Barr Ladies League. The weekly game was Longest putt on No. 5, made by Hanna Mohr, and winning teams were 3, 4, 6, 9, 11 and 12.
