Local squads busy as season winds down

Midland Trail 8
Midland Trail committed five errors and Princeton scored six runs in the first two innings to lead the way to its 11-8 home victory on April 23.
For the Patriots, who outhit the Tigers 7-6, Madison Rader was 2-for-3 with an RBI, Hannah Beeson (RBI) and Jesse Skaggs were both 1-for-2 with a double, Nevaeh Hall and Anna Weaver (two RBIs) were each 1-for-4, Kyndal Parsons was 1-for-2, and Jenna Stonestreet drove in a run.
Abigail Jenkins was 2-for-3 with a double and a pair of RBIs to lead Princeton, while Riley Riggs and K. Brammer knocked in two runs each.
Hayden Jones earned the pitching win with relief help from Emma Johnson.
Rader was tagged with the mound loss. She struck out five, scattered six hits and yielded just two earned runs in a six-inning stint.
Midland Trail 16
Charleston Catholic 1
Visiting Midland Trail finished strong on Saturday, April 20 to cement a 16-1 defeat of Charleston Catholic.
Leading 5-1, the Patriots plated 11 runs in the next two innings to cruise to the win.
For Trail, Madison Rader was productive at the plate and on the mound to power the attack. The freshman was 3-for-4 with a double and three RBIs. On the hill, she struck out eight and allowed one hit, one unearned run and two walks in securing the victory.
Also for the Patriots, Hannah Beeson, Nevaeh Hall, Anna Weaver and Trinity Wilson produced one base hit apiece. Hall, Wilson and Jesse Skaggs each drove in two runs, and Beeson, Weaver and Raygen Parsons (three stolen bases) had one RBI apiece.
Hannah Vriendt had the Irish's lone hit, a double.
Midland Trail 23
Cross Lanes Christian 16
A 20-hit attack propelled Midland Trail past Cross Lanes Christian on April 20. The Patriots led 11-0 after two innings en route to the victory.
Hannah Beeson was 2-for-3 with a homer, a double and five RBIs to highlight the Trail offense. Raygen Parsons was 2-for-3 with a double and four RBIs, and Madison Rader and Nevaeh Hall were both 3-for-3 with two RBIs. Hall belted two triples and a double, and Rader produced a pair of two-baggers.
Also, Trinity Wilson was 3-for-5 and drove in three runs, and Jenna Stonestreet went 2-for-3. Providing one hit apiece were Jesse Skaggs (RBI), Jaci Stonestreet, Anna Weaver, Bree Barnhouse (two RBIs) and Charleigh Ford. Mary McGraw and Kylie Ramsey had one RBI each.
C. Witt was 2-for-4 and drove in three runs for Cross Lanes Christian. H. Ellison and I. Harper knocked in two runs each.
Rader nabbed the pitching win by striking out two and surrendering no hits in two innings. Raelyn Morris fanned five and gave up 10 hits and one earned run in three innings of relief.
The two squads combined for 16 errors (Midland Trail with nine and CLC with seven).
Midland Trail 7
Liberty 5
A four-spot in the top of the first inning led Midland Trail to an eventual 7-5 conquest of Liberty on April 18.
Madison Rader (one RBI), Nevaeh Hall (three RBIs) and Raygen Parsons (double, RBI) each provided three hits for the Patriots. Hannah Beeson, Jesse Skaggs, Anna Weaver (RBI) and Kylie Ramsey (RBI) had one base knock apiece.
For Liberty, K. Mullens and H. Brown both had two hits.
Rader went seven strong innings for the pitching win. She struck out 13, scattered eight hits, and yielded two earned runs and no walks in seven innings.
M. Cox had six strikeouts for Liberty.
MIDDLE SCHOOL

Fayetteville 15
Oak Hill 7
On April 20, the Pirates got by the Red Devils 15-7.
Kinzlee Dove was 3-for-4 with a double for Fayetteville. Makayla Smith had a double that scored three runs, and Olivia Trofy supplied a run-scoring double.
Midland Trail 14
Fayetteville 3
The visiting Patriots tallied 10 runs combined in the second and third innings on their way to a 14-3 win over Fayetteville on April 19.
Mahala Crist was 2-for-4 with a triple for Trail. Stephanie Harrell was 2-for-4 with a pair of RBIs, Abigail Parcell was 1-for-3 and drove in two runs, Charis Gerwig was 2-for-4 with an RBI, and Brooke Ewing was 1-for-4 with a double. Gerwig and Jessi Mooney each scored three runs, and Gerwig stole eight bases.
For Fayetteville, Makayla Smith was 2-for-3 with an RBI, and Riley Dial and Kinzlee Dove (double) had one hit each.
Harrell earned the complete-game mound win, striking out 10, giving up four hits, yielding one earned run and walking four.
Smith had five strikeouts in the loss for Fayetteville, and Ava Wood struck out one and gave up one hit in relief.
Fayetteville committed seven errors.
Note: In an earlier game against Fayetteville, Midland Trail's Chris Gerwig was 2-for-2, not 1-for-2, at the plate.
Oak Hill 13
Greater Beckley Christian 1
On April 18, the Oak Hill girls cruised by Greater Beckley Christian 13-1.
Meeka Miller was 2-for-3 with two home runs and four RBIs to guide the Red Devils. K. King was 2-for-2 with a homer, a triple and three RBIs, P. Aicher was 1-for-2 and drove in a run, Emmy Hudson was 1-for-1 with an RBI, B. Ward was 1-for-2 with an RBI, and M. Lewis was 1-for-4.
For Greater Beckley, H. Harper was 1-for-2, and L. Dioha drove in a run.
Hudson secured the win on the mound. She struck out 10 batters and allowed just one hit, one walk and no walks.
H. Harper and B. Dickinson combined on the mound for GBC.
Midland Trail 3
Eastern Greenbrier 2
On April 18, the Patriots grabbed an exciting triumph over visiting Eastern Greenbrier.
Harper Moore came off the bench for a walk-off single that scored Brooke Ewing in extra innings to allow Midland Trail to escape.
In addition to Moore's game-winner, Presley Walker was 4-for-4 with a triple and a double to pace the MTMS attack. Stephanie Harrell was 2-for-4 with a double and one RBI, Ewing went 3-for-3 and drove in a run in addition to scoring the decisive run, and Jessi Mooney and Mahala Crist both produced a base hit.
K. Roberts was 2-for-3 for Eastern Greenbrier, and T. Elmore and K. Huffman each had an RBI.
Harrell struck out seven and allowed nine hits, an earned run and a walk to secure the pitching win.
Huffman fanned 14 Patriots and gave up 12 hits in absorbing the loss.
Fayetteville 7
Oceana 6
Fayetteville withstood a late Oceana rally for the victory on April 18.
Makayla Smith was 1-for-3 with a double and drove in two runs for the Pirates. Kailyn Thomas was 2-for-3 with a triple and an RBI, and Riley Dial was 1-for-3 with a home run. Also, Adriana Ibarra was 1-for-4 with a double, and Kinzlee Dove drove in a run.
Ava Wood notched the pitching decision for Fayetteville. She allowed seven hits and one earned run while striking out six Oceana players.

Fayetteville 10
On Saturday, April 13, the Red Devils pushed across six runs in the bottom of the fifth frame to erase a 6-0 deficit, then plated four runs in the home half of the eighth inning for the exciting win over the Pirates.
For Oak Hill, Emmy Hudson went 3-for-5 with a double and two RBIs, and K. Cochran was 2-for-6 and knocked in two runs.
Also contributing were: L. Shuck 2-for-4, M. Lewis 1-for-3 (RBI), P. Aicher 1-for-3, M. Miller 1-for-4 (2 RBIs), K. King 1-for-3, and B. Greer 1-for-2 (RBI).
Ava Wood (RBI), Adriana Ibarra and Kinzlee Dove (RBI) supplied two hits apiece for the Pirates to help lead the Pirates. Olivia Trofy added a base hit, and Braley Hopkins drove in a run.
Hudson went the distance on the mound to gain the verdict. She struck out 13, allowed nine hits and gave up two earned runs.
Makayla Smith absorbed the loss on the mound, striking out seven and yielding six hits, six earned runs and eight walks. Wood fanned seven and gave up three earned runs in three innings of relief.

Midland Trail 5
Oak Hill 2
A pivotal three-run fifth inning lifted the Midland Trail Patriots past Fayette County foe Oak Hill on Saturday, April 20.
"Very excited for our kids to get this win," said Midland Trail coach Nick Mooney. "First time we have beat Oak Hill in our four years as a program. These 8th graders have really put in the work; they deserved that win."
"We had kids like Preston Eades and Landyn Cordle come up big and usually do," Mooney added. "But also young talent like Parker Holly (was) put in a big spot and he executed, driving in a huge RBI."
Preston Eades was 2-for-3 with a double and one RBI for Trail. Kolton Eades was 1-for-4, Jacob Brown was 1-for-3, Parker Holly was 1-for-1. Holly and Landyn Cordle each drove in a run.
J. Hess, B. Elswick (double) and S. Truman (RBI) each provided a base hit for the Red Devils.
Cordle threw four innings to earn the win. He struck out eight, walked eight and yielded one hit and one earned run. Relieving for three scoreless innings was Preston Eades, who fanned four and surrendered two hits.
For Oak Hill, Elswick struck out 11 and allowed five hits and four earned runs.
Midland Trail 10
Fayetteville 0
On April 22, the Patriots defeated the Fayetteville PK-8 Pirates 10-0.
Peyton Campbell was 3-for-3 with a double for the winners. Riley Dixon was 2-for-3 with two RBIs, and Brayden Neal was 2-for-2 with an RBI.
Lucas Young surrendered four hits and no runs in five innings on the mound for the Patriots. He struck out nine and issued no walks.
"Campbell, Neal and Dixon stepped up big at the plate today, all at needed times," MTMS head coach Nick Mooney said. "Great to see them execute."
Young, a seventh-grade pitcher, was termed a "fireballer" by his coach. "This kid amazes me," Mooney said. "He has worked so hard, he threw darts all evening and led us to the win like a man."
Thorpe Fussell, Ethan Akers and Paxton Hopkins had a hit apiece for Fayetteville.
