LOCAL ROUNDUP: Houpt, Danville seventh in state

Oct. 24—ARLINGTON HEIGHTS — Danville's Anna Houpt ended the season on Saturday in the IHSA Class 1A consolation bracket.

Houpt lost to Chicago University's Sophia Holt 6-3, 6-4 in the semifinals of the bracket and would end up seventh overall for the best singles finish in school history in girls tennis. Holt would go on to lose to Fairfield's Lisa Tomasi 7-6 (2), 6-2 in the consolation final.

With Houpt's and teammate Reese Rundle's performance, the Vikings ended up in a tie for seventh with Highland and Woodstock Marian with 11 points.

It is the second straight top 10 finish for the Vikings, who took third as a team last season.

PREP FOOTBALL

BHRA 54, Oakwood 16

BISMARCK — The Bismarck-Henning/Rossville-Alvin football team did not let up in getting ready for the playoffs on Friday, beating Oakwood 54-16 at Payton-Moss Field.

Karson Stevenson had 379 yards and six touchdown passes for the Blue Devils with Chaz Dubois catching four passes for 135 yards and three touchdowns, Ayden Ingram had five catches for 107 yards and two touchdowns, Logan Hughes had two catches for 58 yards and a touchdown and Anderson Thomas had one catch for 42 yards.

Evan Parish had 45 yards rushing and Dubois had 23 yards and added a 60-yard interception return.

Defense was responsible for most of Oakwood's points with Harley Grimm returning a 57-yard fumble for a touchdown and getting a safety, while Cameron Black had a one-yard touchdown run.

The Blue Devils end the regular season 7-2 overall and in the Vermilion Valley Conference while the Comets end the season at 4-5.

Westville 52, Iroquois West 24

WESTVILLE — The Westville football team prepared for the playoffs with a 52-24 win over Iroquois West on Friday.

Drew Wichtowski had 289 yards rushing and four touchdowns for the Tigers and passed for 144 yards and two scores

Trent McMasters had 47 yards rushing and a score, Tyler Miller had a touchdown run and Easton Barney caught a 61-yards pass for a score.

The Tigers end the regular season with an 8-1 record and a tie with Momence for first in the Vermilion Valley Conference.

Salt Fork 47, Clifton Central 19

CATLIN — The Salt Fork football team got going for playoff action on Friday with a 47-19 win over Clifton Central.

The Storm only had a 7-6 lead to start the game, before Kam Keller scored two touchdown runs for a 21-6 lead after the first quarter.

After that, Jameson Remole took over with a 15-yard scoring strike to Grant Wilson in the second quarter and a 47-yard pass to Keller and a 13-yard pass to Payton Hageman to push the lead higher.

Jameson Chambliss scored on a 5-yard run in the fourth quarter to end the scoring.

Keller had 140 yards rushing, while Ian Church had 64 yards, Carter Chambliss had 38 yards, Hageman had a 29-yard run for a touchdown in the first quarter and Jameson Chambliss had 14 yards.

Remole passed for 125 yards with Wilson getting six catches for 89 yards and Keller had one catch for 47 yards.

The Storm end the regular season 7-2 overall and in the Vermilion Valley Conference.

Watseka 41, HAAP 27

WATSEKA — The Hoopeston Area/Armstrong-Potomac football lost its final game of the season on Friday with a 41-27 loss to Watseka.

Sophomore Zach Huchel passed for 127 and a touchdown for the Cornjerkers, while Kendrick Sigerill passed for 107 yards and another score. Ayden Larkin and Kollin Asbury each ran for 42 yards. Asbury caught six passes for 114 yards, while Ryker Small caught four passes for 85 yards.

With the loss, the Cornjerkers finish the regular season 2-7.

N. Vermillion 41, Attica 6

ATTICA, Ind. — The North Vermillion football team made quick work of Attica with a 41-6 win in an IHSAA Class 1A sectional opener.

Jerome White ran for a 65-yard touchdowns and passed to Wyatt Walters for an 25-yard score for the Falcons, while Cody Tryon had a 61-yard run, Andrew Botner had a seven-yard scoring run, Matthew Dawson had a 10yard scoring run and Daniel Woody had an eight-yard run.

Tryon, Woody, Botner and White each ran for 70 yards for North Vermillion, while Woody and Shawn Martin each had an interception.

The Falcons are 7-3 and will face Clinton Prairie on Friday.

Clinton Prairie 41, Covington 6

COVINGTON, Ind. — The Covington football team could not get much going in Friday's sectional matchup, losing 41-6 to Clinton Prairie.

The Trojans end the season 4-6 overall.

Park Tudor 42, Fountain Central 6

INDIANAPOLIS — The Fountain Central football team had a tough assignment on Friday when it played undefeated Park Tudor.

The Mustangs could not complete that assignment as they lost 42-6 to the Panthers.

Fountain Central ends the season at 6-4.

CROSS COUNTRY

Austin qualifies for state

BROWNSBURG, Ind. — Seeger Hadessah Austin took sixth in a IHSAA cross-country regional on Saturday to advance to the state meet.

Austin had a time of 18:37 and was the only local runner to make it to Saturday's meet at Terre Haute's LaVern Gibson Cross country course.

Caleigh Purcell was 52nd (20:29) for Seeger, who was 10th as a team, while Adara Austin was 54th (20:37) and Emily Greene was 84th (21:18).

North Vermillion's Riley Smith was 166th (22:57) while Fountain Central's Raley Messinger was 184th (23:19), Alydia Mellady was 196th (23:42) and Brailey Hoagland was 205th (24:00).

The highest finish locally for the boys was Nathan Odle, who took 58th (16:46) for Seeger, who was 11th as a team, while Ethan Guminski was 69th (16:56), Konner Brewer was 172nd (18:15), John Puterbaugh was 199th (18:43) and Landon Dispennett was 214th (19:06).

Hayden Kler was 121st (17:42) for Fountain Central, while North Vermillion Landon Wesch was 216th (19:07).

Local runners advance

CHRISMAN — Local girls and boys runners were able to make their move past regional action at an IHSA Class 1A regional on Saturday.

The highest local finisher in the girls race was Oakwood/Salt Fork's Macie Russell, who took fourth with a time of 20:10 with teammate Callie Richardson taking sixth (20:45).

Oakwood/Salt Fork and Bismarck-Henning/Rossville-Alvin each qualified as a team for Saturday's sectional meet. Aleah Potter led the Blue Devils in 10th at 21:03 with teammates Addie Hensold (23:08) in 31st and Gabby Moreman in 32nd (23:13).

Armstrong-Potomac's Kayla Crull made it with a time of 22:50 to take 24th with Chrisman/Georgetown-Ridge Farm's Leah Phipps in 13th (21:12).

In the boys race, no local teams qualified, but Chrisman/Georgetown-Ridge Farm's Seth Ellis was 16th (17:34), OSF's Thomas Wells was 28th (18:29) and Armstrong-Potomac's Eli Kennel was 31st (18:34).

The runners and teams will compete in Saturday's sectional at South Shores Park in Decatur.

Danville 10th in regional

NORMAL — The Vikings' season ended on Saturday by taking 10th in an IHSA Class 2A regional.

Andrei Pacheco led Danville with a time of 18 minutes 46 seconds for 47th place, while Josiah Williams was 52nd (19:04), Revan Bailey was 54th (19:15), Dominic Bowling was 62nd (19:45), Jesse Grupe took 67th (20:10), Brady Ohlmiller was 79th (22:49) and Devin Morris had a personal best of 23:03 to take 80th.

PREP BOYS SOCCER

First Baptist wins IACS title

SCHAUMBURG — The Knights were able to beat Logos Christian 4-0 on Saturday to win the IACS State Championship.

Jeremiah Watson had two goals for First Baptist, while Josiah Watson and Remington Rebert each had one goal and Austin McIntyre had the shutout in goal.

BCC 4, OSF 1

ST. ANNE — The Oakwood/Salt Fork boys soccer team lost 4-1 to Bloomington Central Catholic on Friday in an IHSA Class 1A sectional semifinal.

Down 2-0 in the second half, Macen Phillips scored the lone goal for the Comets to cut the lead, but BCC's Gavin Young scored two of his three goals in the game afterward to clinch the game.

Jakob Rupp had 12 saves in goal for the Comets, who end the season at 17-8-1.
