LOCAL NOTEBOOK: Three members of the Wensloff family from Roseau start for Minnesota Crookston baseball

Mar. 15—GRAND FORKS — Three members of the Wensloff family from Roseau were in the starting lineup together for the Minnesota Crookston baseball program earlier this week for the first time in their careers.

The family affair helped the Golden Eagles to a 6-3 win over Wayne State in Davenport, Fla.

Sophomore pitcher Isaac Wensloff earned the pitching win in his first career start.

Isaac Wensloff tossed six innings, allowing just three runs on five hits. He had seven strikeouts and no walks.

"He's a pretty intense competitor who knows the game," UMC coach Steve Gust said. "He can throw a change at anytime, and he has a slider and fastball. He's not overpowering, but he knows how to pitch."

Senior Danny Wensloff went 2-for-5 with a run scored. Freshman Aaron Wensloff helped UMC take a 1-0 lead to start the game when he hit a sacrifice fly to score his cousin Danny Wensloff. Aaron and Isaac are brothers.

The Wensloffs come from baseball families. Danny's dad is Tracey Wensloff, a member of the Minnesota Baseball Coaches Hall of Fame. Isaac and Aaron's dad is Todd, who played baseball at UND.

"All of them are really intelligent baseball players," Gust said. "They're coachable and hard-working. I didn't realize I put them all in the lineup until after the game. They all deserved it. I didn't do it because I thought it would be cool."

Sophomore Sawyer Satrom, a former standout athlete at May-Port-C-G, also finished 1-for-3 with a run scored in the game.

On Thursday, former Grand Forks Red River athlete Brody Sorenson, a senior pitcher for UMC, helped the Golden Eagles to a 5-1 win over Purdue University Northwest.

Sorenson struck out six in 6.2 innings, allowing seven hits and walking two. The converted relieve improved to 2-1. He has a 3.45 ERA and a team-high 35 strikeouts to six walks.

Former Grand Forks Central and Royals American Legion baseball player Parker Stroh recently hit his first home run of the season at McNeese State in a loss to Arkansas.

McNeese State is a Division I program in Lousiana which plays in the Southland Conference. Stroh has played in 12 games with eight starts this season.

It's the fourth college stop for Stroh, who started his college career at Minnesota Crookston before playing at Wabash Valley, Southern Indiana and now McNeese.

In 33 games last season at Southern Indiana, Stroh batted a team-high .322 and drove in 19 runs with 23 starts at catcher.

Stroh was North Dakota's Mr. Baseball in 2019.

Former Grand Forks Central athlete Brandon McGarry had his best performance for UND's golf program last week at the Jackrabbit Invitational in Boulder City, Nev.

McGarry, a senior for the Fighting Hawks, finished with a final score of 213 (three-under) to tie for second.

The score was the best by a UND golfer since Patrick Traynor at the SIUE Derek Dolenc Invitational in Sept. 2016 and the second-place result is the highest finish in a 54-hole event since Jacob Dehne did so at the Coyote Classic in Sept. 2014.
