Local golf squads busy with competitions

STURGIS — Local golf teams have had their seasons heating up recently with plenty of competition.

On Monday, the Sturgis golfers competed in their third jamboree of the season. The Trojans shot a team score of 196 for the day. Head coach Nate Schwartz said his team saw some good things at the jamboree and the team is looking to continue to improve.

Graeme Herald led the Trojans with a 43, good for seventh overall. Tyler Sikorski and Luke Frost each shot a round of 49 while Carter Wallace shot 55. Taner Patrick added a 58, James Berry shot 67.

On Thursday, the Trojans played in Vicksburg. They shot a 196. Herald led with a 41 while Wallace added a 49 and Patrick shot 52. Sikorski carded a 54, Frost shot 55 and George Bucklin added a 63.

Sturgis also took part in the Coldwater Invitational last week. They shot a 383 to finish 20th. Herald led with an 82 on the day, while Sikorski shot 95. Wallace added a 96 and Frost shot 100. Patrick fired a 106, Bucklin added a 122.

Colon edges Mendon

The Colon golf team beat Mendon 184-214 in a round at States Golf Course last week. Jonny Greenwald led the Magi with a 40.

Kayden LaClair added a 42 while Dalton Williams and Dom Mock both shot 51. Carter Hetman added a 54 and Owen Wilson shot 57.

Mendon at Traverse City

The Mendon golf team took part in a two-day event held in Traverse City last weekend.

On Friday, the Hornets took part in a round at Mountain Ridge Course at Crystal Mountain. The Hornets fired a 363. Cam Bingaman led the way with a 78 and Matt Bakeman fired an 85. Mason Wilczynski added 89 while Grant Crotser (111), Jaden Behrends (112) and Landon Vrobel (145) all competed.

On Saturday, the Hornets played at Betsie Valley Course, firing a 443. Bakeman led with a 95 while Bingaman added 96. Crotser shot 123, Wilczynski shot 128 and Behrends added a 136.

SW10 jamboree on Friday

Cassopolis won a SouthWest10 jamboree held on Friday at Centreville. The Rangers shot a 181 to finish in front of Comstock (200). Centreville came in third at 206, White Pigeon was fourth at 207 and Marcellus finished fifth at 217.

The Chiefs were led by Isaiah Ryall in fourth place with a 47. Evan Rudloff shot a 49 to finish eighth. Zach Royce shot 55, Luke Hinkson added a 56, Norberto shot 58 and Owen Keo added a 64.
