LOCAL CONNECTIONS: Tetreault grabs first catch, TD for Coast Guard

Sep. 19—It was day of firsts for United States Coast Guard Academy football player Ezra Tetreault (Western Wayne).

In a 49-42 win over Nichols College, the senior wide receiver had his first career reception and touchdown. It was a 23-yarder from quarterback Joey Armentrout with five minutes left in the first quarter and gave the Bears a 7-0 lead.

Tetreault finished with three catches for 45 yards. He also returned two kickoffs for 28 yards.

Junior defensive back Nico Berrios (Lackawanna Trail) had four solo tackles and two pass breakups for the Coast Guard, which improved to 2-1 overall.

Grand reception

KIng's College football senior Tyler Carey (Old Forge) caught three passes for 62 yards and one touchdown in the Monarchs' 56-0 win over Albright College. In the process, he surpassed 1,000 receiving yards for his career.

His touchdown came on the first play of the second quarter, a 9-yard catch from quarterback Russell Minor-Shaw to extend King's lead to 28-0. The milestone came in the third quarter on a 28-yard reception.

For his career, Carey has 61 catches for 1,022 yards and nine touchdowns in 23 games.

University of Alabama junior tight end C.J. Dippre (Lakeland) caught a 45-yard pass in the third quarter against South Florida. It moved the Crimson Tide from their 16-yard line to the South Florida 39. Four plays later, they scored the go-ahead touchdown, 10-3, on their way to a 17-3 victory. ... Old Dominion University junior linebacker Jason Henderson (Delaware Valley) had 13 tackles (4 solo, 9 assists) and two tackles for loss in a 27-24 loss to Wake Forest. Henderson has 40 tackles (12,28) through three games, which ranks fifth in the Football Bowl Subdivision. He leads FBS with 13.3 tackles per game. ... Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute junior running back Christian Buckley (Dunmore) had 10 carries for 36 yards and one touchdown and caught two passes for 10 yards in a 25-0 win over Worcester Polytechnic Institute in the annual Transit Trophy game. Buckley's touchdown was a 2-yard run with 5:20 left in the fourth quarter to cap the victory. ... Moravian University senior defensive back Zach Scillia (Delaware Valley) had five tackles (4,1) and an interception in the Greyhounds' 29-28 win over The Apprentice School. It was his first interception of the season and fourth of his career. ... Slippery Rock University cross country sophomore Michael Novak (Mid Valley) placed 37th out of 88 runners at the Robert Morris University Colonial Invitational in 26:06.54. ... At the Kutztown University Division II-III Challenge, DeSales University cross country junior Haley Estus (Western Wayne) finished 20th out of 89 runners in 25:58.2. Junior teammate Elizabeth Chidester (Montrose) was 51st in 27:50.7.

Weekly winner

University of Scranton women's soccer goalkeeper Nicole Olson was named Landmark Conference Defensive Athlete of the Week for the period ending Sunday.

Olson had nine saves and allowed one goal during a 1-0-1 week for the Royals. She had three saves in a 3-0 win over Penn State-Berks and made six stops in a 1-1 tie against Stevens Tech. Five of her six saves came in the final 25-plus minutes after Scranton tied the score in the 63rd minute.
