Oct. 16—Around the region

— UConn women's basketball team guard Nika Muhl is one of 20 players on the 2024 Nancy Lieberman Award watch list. The award honors the nation's top Division I point guard. Muhl, a senior, made the cut as a finalist last season, averaging career bests for assists (7.9), points (7.1) and rebounds (3.9) per game.

— At Plymouth State University, senior Nora Ryan (Fitch) had eight kills, seven aces and five blocks in the women's volleyball team's sweep of Castleton State. Ryan was named Little East Conference offensive player of the week after powering the Panthers to two wins.

— Meredith Healy (East Lyme), a sophomore forward, is first on the Springfield College women's soccer team in assists with four and third in points with 10 while starting all 13 games. She's tied for third in goals with three.

Her twin sister Sarah scored her first collegiate career goal in the field hockey team's 8-1 win over Albertus Magnus on Oct. 10.

On the football field, Blane Hart (East Lyme) rushed for 92 yards and scored a touchdown in a 38-10 rout of MIT on Oct. 7. The Pride improved to 5-1 overall.

— St. Michael's College freshman Kennedy Holsapple (East Lyme) helped the women's cross country team place second out of 11 teams at the Bruce Kirsh Cross Country Cup in Contoocook, N.H., last weekend. She placed eighth overall.

— Freshman Michael Strain (Griswold) was Quinnipiac's fourth finisher at the NEICAAA Cross Country Championships on Oct. 7 at Franklin Park in Boston. He finished the 8K race in 28 minutes, 12.9 seconds.

— Junior defender Emily DeRoehn (Old Lyme) is one of the top players for the Johnson & Wales women's soccer team. A starter, she has five goals and one assist for the Wildcats, who reside in first place in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference at 12-0 with three regular season games remaining.

— At Stonehill College, sophomore Jordan Malloy (Bacon Academy) improved her time from her previous race by one minute, six seconds, while competing in the ECAC/IC4A Championship on Friday at Van Cortlandt Park in New York. She finished in 22:40.8.

— Junior Natalie Gray (Stonington) scored a goal for the Nichols College women's soccer team in a 3-2 loss to Plymouth State on Oct. 4. It was her team best fourth goal of the season. She also leads the way in points with eight.

— Junior midfielder Delaney Farinha (Norwich Free Academy) assisted on the Assumption women's soccer team's go-ahead goal in a 4-1 win over New Haven on Sunday.

— Senior defensive back Logan Chappell (Griswold) chipped in 11 tackles, including five solo, for the UMass Dartmouth football team in a 26-23 overtime win over Westfield State on Saturday. Junior wide receiver Antonio Brown (Montville) added two catches for 41 yards.

— Sophomore midfielder Tim Lynch (Fitch) has started 14 games for the Endicott College men's soccer team while senior Angelina Venditti (East Lyme), a starter, helps anchor the defense for the women's soccer team.

— Reid Dowling (East Lyme), a freshman midfielder, scored his first collegiate goal in the Eastern Connecticut State University men's soccer team's 6-1 win over Castleton on Sept. 30. Freshman Sophie Ash (Fitch) has appeared in 12 games for the field hockey team.

— At Central Connecticut State University, graduate runner Sam Whittaker (East Lyme) finished third out of 310 competitors with a 8K time of 24:00.7 at the ECAC/IC4A Championships Friday in New York.

— Salve Regina sophomore midfielder Aaron Muncaster (Montville) registered his first assist of the season in 5-1 win over Westfield State on Oct. 10.

Camel highlights

— The Connecticut College men's soccer team survived a tough weekend and remained undefeated at 9-0-4 overall, 4-0-4 in New England Small College Athletic Conference action. The Camels beat Colby, 3-0, Saturday and tied No. 3 Middlebury, 1-1, Sunday.

They remain in the hunt for the regular-season title, sitting in fourth place with 16 points behind Tufts (17 points), Amherst (17) and leader Middlebury (18). They finish up with road games at Bates (2-9-1, 0-8) and Wesleyan (5-3-4, 2-2-4).

— After opening the field hockey season with six straight NESCAC losses, the Camels scored their first league win by beating Colby, 2-0, at Silfen Field on Saturday. Elektra Rodger notched the game-winner and Bridget McGann also scored while goalie Liz Winemaster had three saves for her fourth shutout overall of the season.

Mariners riding a wave

— Mitchell College junior Gemma Landry was selected as the GNAC women's soccer goalie of the week after posting back-to-back shutouts against Anna Maria and Norwich. She made nine saves to add to her league leading total of 113.

Tracking the Bears

— Coast Guard Academy sophomore Claire Semerod was named the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference women's cross country runner of the week after recording the program's fourth best 6K time in school history. She finished 10th overall at the Connecticut College Invite last weekend in 21:33.
