Local athletes find homes on National Signing Day, golfers conclude 2A state tournament

Student-athletes up and down the Treasure Coast declared where their futures will lie Wednesday on national signing day.

Wednesday marked the first window in which letters of intent can be signed for sports outside of football. Across the spectrum from fall to winter sports, several of the area's best players made it official where they will be going.

South Fork softball standout Alice Dewaters will head over to Tampa and play at USF after playing a big role in the Bulldogs reaching a 5A final four last season.

Dewaters batted a team-high .446 and stole 21 bases. Her sister, Abbie, is also committed to USF and will enter her junior year with the Bulldogs.

Centennial volleyball standout Shayla Henry will play at UAB after finishing her senior season this fall with the Eagles with the team finishing with a 13-9 record.

Treasure Coast softball's Felicity Fonseca is off to Virginia and will continue her career at Liberty University.

Pine School's Julia Kerr will play Division I lacrosse at Manhattan University after finishing her senior season with the Knights this spring.

At Vero Beach, three different spring sports had athletes sign to continue their careers.

From beach volleyball, Ava Lilliquist will play at the Division I level at Florida Gulf Coast after finishing her senior year.

From the lacrosse team, Paige Medlin is off to Georgia to play at Young Harris College, and Bryce Forrest will head just up the road at Florida Tech.

From the softball program, Dayna Patten will play at Lees-McRae in North Carolina, and Emma Youngblood is heading north to play at the University of New Haven in Connecticut.

At Sebastian River, baseball standout Calvin Junek will play at the Division I level and will pitch at Coastal Carolina.

Lacrosse standouts Baylee Walker and Kayley Murano also are off to college to continue their careers with Walker staying local down at Keiser University and Murano heading to Kansas to play at Ottawa University.

Fort Pierce Central volleyball standout Sydney Corbett will stay in-state to play at Palm Beach Atlantic after a stellar season in her senior year with the Cobras.

Corbett was one of the area's leaders in kills with 414 and added 215 digs to help Central finish with a 19-10 season.

Golfers conclude season at 2A state golf

Golfers from Jensen Beach and South Fork wrapped up their seasons at the Mission Inn Resort in Howey-in-the-Hills at the FHSAA 2A Championships Wednesday afternoon.

On the Las Colinas Course, Jensen Beach's girls finished in 14th place and were led by sophomore Anita Wang's two-day total of 163.

Wang shot a 7-over 78 in her second round to finish in a tie for 40th.

Chloe Sebuck finished 62nd after a two-day total of 175 after shooting a round of 83 and seniors Faith Ayers (92-93) and Kayla Rigel (93-107) rounded out the lineup Wednesday for the Falcons.

South Fork's Lily Boulter improved eight shots from her opening round to card a 7-over 78 on the second day and finished in a tie for 43rd for the Bulldogs.

On the El Campeon Course, South Fork's boys finished in 16th place led by senior Brady Beebe shooting a two-day total of 166.

Beebe shot an 84 in his second round and finished in a tie for 55th overall.

Luke Harrigan (85-90), Aahan Asthana (88-94) and Cody Rausch (93-102) rounded out the lineup for the Bulldogs.

Jensen Beach senior Brian Bason shot rounds of 84 and 82 to finish in a tie for 55th overall for the Falcons.
