13 teams move to 2-0: Week 2 South Shore high school football scoreboard and highlights

High school football returned last week and there was plenty of exciting action (catch up on everything from Week 1 right here).

Week 2 should be just as exciting with 30 games on the South Shore slate. The theme of this week is Thursday night football. Ten games are slated to kick off Thursday, with the rest of the action set for Friday.

Looking for some games to pay attention to this week? North Quincy and Braintree will face off in Quincy on Friday night with both teams trying to improve to 2-0. West Bridgewater and Norwell is another matchup of two teams trying to improve to 2-0.

Rockland (Manchester Essex) and Middleboro (Holliston) are playing opponents they might run into later on this season in the playoffs. BC High is trying to improve to 2-0 for the first time since 2017.

Whitman-Hanson vs. Scituate and Hingham vs. Hanover is a pair of great crossover Patriot League matchups.

Thursday

Abington 34, Apponequet 26: The Green Wave improve to 2-0 as Mason Nash ran eight times for 115 yards and two TDs (29 and 48). Will LeBlanc hauled in a 16-yard TD pass from Michael Reilly. AJ Nash (16 yards) and Ryan Solimini (30) each had one rushing TD. Nate Duggan made seven tackles, including two for a loss.

Cardinal Spellman 50, Martha's Vineyard 7: Matt O'Donnell accounted for five TDs (3 rushing, 2 passing), forced a safety and kicked an extra point in the win for the Cardinals (2-0). O'Donnell finished 6 of 9 passing for 105 yards and ran 11 times for 135 yards. Jay Comeau (2 catches, 72 yards) had a pair of receiving TDs and returned a kick 82 yards for a score. He was also 5 of 6 on extra-point kicks. Ryan Sluhocki had a pair of interceptions, included one returned for a TD. Caleb Altidor made 14 tackles, and the offensive and defensive lines dominated.

Holliston 29, Middleboro 6: The Sachems drop to 1-1.

Archbishop Williams 35, Oliver Ames 16: Shane Wright (10 carries for 90 yards) had TD runs of 5 and 15 yards, and Tommy McDonagh (5 catches for 145 yards) caught a 40-yard TD pass from Joe Schwartz and was 5-for-5 on PATs for the Bishops (1-1) in the home win. Williams also got TD runs from Luca Notaro (a 2-yarder for a 7-0 lead in the first quarter) and Luke Charleton (a 5-yarder to make it 14-0 in the second quarter). Wright also had 8 tackles and an interception. The Tigers (0-2) got a TD pass from Luke Fernald and a 10-yard TD run from Danny Dwyer. Fernald and Evan Szumylo had 2-point conversion runs for OA.

Franklin 21, Brockton 13: The Boxers fall to 0-2. Cam Monteiro rushed 13 times for 117 yards, including a 69-yard TD.

Duxbury 21, Mansfield 17: The Dragons (1-1) took a fourth-quarter lead on a Finn Carley 7-yard TD run. Trevor Jones threw a 14-yard TD pass to Zach Falls. Jones also had a rushing TD following a Robert Heppenstall interception.

Weymouth 19, Newton North 14: The Wildcats (2-0) made a last-minute defensive stand to preserve the win in new coach Michael Donovan's home debut, denying the Tigers on fourth-and-goal from the 7. Tyler Nordstrom threw TD passes to Michael Farrow (15 yards) and Andrew DelGallo (5 yards), and Cam Aieta scored on a 1-yard run. Anthony Smith literally ran out the clock with an 80-yard run down to the Newton North 8 on the final play of the game.

Quincy 21, Concord-Carlisle 19: Freshman Jonas Ala scored what turned out to be the winning touchdown with a 6-yard run in the fourth quarter. Nate Goff was 17 of 23 passing for 139 yards and a TD to Alex Martinez. Gabe Rodrigues added a rushing TD.

Milton 49, Framingham 0: Patrick Miller threw five TD passes as the Wildcats (2-0) rolled. Ferris Collins had TD receptions of 37 and 9 yards. Ronan Sammon (3 yards), Luke Haley (42) and Nathan Ehui (46) each hauled in a TD pass. Luke Hartford (31 yards) and Patrick Collins each chipped in a rushing TD. Aidan Rowley was 7 of 7 on extra-point kicks.

Norwood 41, Canton 7: The Bulldogs drop to 1-1.

BC High 44, Reading 7: The Eagles improve to 2-0. Jacob Bierenbroodspot (230 total yards) had touchdowns of 60 (run), 39 (catch) and 73 (run) yards. Jackson Richard had a pair of TD runs (53 and 1 yard). Kise Flannery had a 56-yard TD run.

Friday

Blue Hills 50, Montachusett Tech 14: The Warriors (1-1) were led by their ground game -- Caiden Montas (151 yards, two TDs), Aidan Landers (140 yards, three TDs) and Matt Began (113 yards, two TDs).

Xaverian 41, Bridgewater-Raynham 0: The Trojans fall to 0-2.

Sandwich 20, Plymouth North 14: Shamus Whiting and Killian Murphy each had TD runs in the loss for the Blue Eagles (1-1).

Randolph 27, Millis 9: The Blue Devils (1-1) picked up their first win.

Hull 40, Holbrook/Avon 11: Nick Tiani rushed nine times for 259 yards and three TDs for the Pirates (1-1). He also hauled in a 30-yard TD catch. Sean Reilly made 10 tackles. For Holbrook, Cam Campbell kicked a 38-yard field goal in the first quarter, and Naden Jacques-St. Louis had a 23-yard TD run in the fourth quarter with Jordan Cioffi adding the 2-point conversion run.

Somerset Berkley 35, Stoughton 14: The Black Knights drop to 0-2.

Plymouth South 35, Revere 6: The brother tandem of Gio Lynch-Ruberio (5 carries, 109 yards, TD) and Casious Johnson (7-108, 2 TDs) powered South's ground game. Johnson's scoring runs covered 8 and 50 yards. Lynch-Ruberio had a 94-yard TD run for a 14-0 first-quarter lead. Tim Durocher opened the scoring with a 12-yard TD run for the Panthers (2-0). Justin LaChance hauled in a 45-yard TD pass from Lucas Swift in the third quarter.

Norwell 26, West Bridgewater 14: Freshman Jack Luccarelli had three TDs to lead the Clippers (2-0) past the Wildcats (1-1). Ty Holmes and Christian Packard scored in the loss.

South Shore Tech 14, Bourne 3: The Vikings improved to 2-0. Jackson Ahr returned a punt that was blocked by Eric Anzivino for a crucial TD in the fourth quarter. Tyler Kline (68 yards rushing) had a 7-yard rushing TD and added a 2-point conversion. Todd Egan ran for 83 yards and threw for 20 more.

Southeastern 20, Case 0: The Hawks improve to 1-1.

Rockland 33, Manchester Essex 16: Jordan DePina rushed for three TDs (72, 5 and 75 yards) and 219 yards to lead the way for the Bulldogs (2-0). Joe Earner rushed for 117 yards, including a pair of TDs (74 and 12 yards).

Scituate 47, Whitman-Hanson 7: The Sailors improve to 1-1 while the Panthers drop to 1-1. Jackson Belsan was 10 of 13 passing for 280 yards and four TDs. He also ran for a TD. Charlie Hartwell had three catches for 115 yards and two TDs (63 and 37 yards). Whitman-Hanson seniors Cody Roberts and Brendan Moore combined for 7 catches and 105 yards, while Brady Markowski led the defense with 10 tackles. Tim Brown had the Panthers' lone sack.

Pembroke 45, Austin Prep 0: Quarterback Owen Pace threw four TD passes, two of them to Will McNamara, as the Titans improved to 1-1. Riece Dunton had scoring runs of 1 yard and 38 yards, and Jake Gasboro had a 52-yard TD run. Pace's scoring passes to McNamara covered 10 and 47 yards. He also threw a 54-yard TD pass to Brenden Kanya and a 15-yarder to Jayden Leonard. Pembroke led 20-0 at halftime.

Hanover 37, Hingham 15: Mehki Bryan (fumble) and Brandon Errico (interception) each had defensive TDs for the Hawks (2-0) while Ben Scalzi (12 of 18, 190 yards) threw for three TDs. Bryan finished with four catches for 125 yards and a TD while recording three sacks n defense. Aidan Boutin (10 tackles, two sacks) and Luke Sheridan (11 tackles, two sacks) both had big defensive days. Hanover combined for 15 tackles for a loss, eight sacks, two blocked punts and two defensive scores. Hingham falls to 0-2.

Carver 49, Tri-County 0: Tyler Lennox (10 of 13 passing, 181 yards) threw TD passes to Robbie Peterson, Derek Lopes and Jack Balzarini in the win for the Crusaders (2-0). Patrick Attaya had a pair of rushing TDs. Nolan Kenneally and Jameson Helms each had a rushing TD. Helms made 12 tackles, three for a loss, and had a QB sack.

Cohasset 20, Silver Lake 7: The Skippers improve to 1-1.

East Bridgewater 14, Nauset 10: Defense led the way for the Vikings (1-1) as Dan Chelmo had a pair of interceptions. Logan Williams also had an interception. Ethan Pohl tossed a TD to Chris Oman and Aidan Clancy had a 27-yard rushing TD.

Braintree 30, North Quincy 7: The Wamps improve to 2-0 while the Raiders drop to 1-1. Junior running back James Curry finished with 157 yards on 27 carries and two touchdowns for Braintree. Senior QB Garoid Stones had 184 yards on 14 of 19 attempts and two TDs. Senior Sam Garrity had two interceptions.

Methuen 27, Marshfield 24: The Rams (0-2) rallied from down 21-6 at halftime to take a 24-21 lead on a Tom Kelly field goal, but Methuen retook the lead with 1:27 remaining.
