Something to keep an eye on: The grass
Players on both teams seem to be having trouble finding consistent grip on the playing surface at PayPal Park. Numerous readers have messaged The Enquirer about how glaring and clear the problem has been tonight.
Scoreless at halftime
We're deadlocked on the scoreboard but San Jose's .7 expected goals, or "xG," versus Cincinnati's .5 xG is indicative of which team was better in the first half, although Cincinnati grew into the game later in the first half.
An optimistic play by Lucho Acosta (28')
Still looking for FC Cincinnati's first on-target shot, Luciano Acosta decided to try to chip San Jose goalkeeper William Yarbrough from around midfield. The attempt was lofted too much, though, and also too long. But seeing as FCC seems a little off in its first match in 17 days, it's not such a bad idea from Acosta.
Underway at PayPal Park (9')
The teams are still feeling each other out early, but San Jose carved out a chance in the second minute that required a Roman Celentano save via Jeremy Ebobisse.

Aaron Boupendza returning for FC Cincinnati?
In short, no. Aaron Boupendza wasn't on FC Cincinnati's dress list when it dropped prior to Saturday's match at San Jose. On Saturday afternoon, team officials confirmed Boupendza was available for selection as he wasn't listed as "out" in the league-wide injury report for the match day − the first instance of that since he sustained a broken jaw in late April.
