Live tracker: Milwaukee Brewers 2023 MLB draft selections
The Milwaukee Brewers are building their future with the MLB draft underway. The draft runs through Tuesday.
Here are the Brewers' selections:
First round (No. 18 overall): Brock Wilken
The basics
School: Wake Forest
Position: Third base
Height: 6-foot-4
Weight: 225 pounds
Age: 21
Bats: Right
Throws: Right
What to know
There's a lot and it's good.
Wilken burst onto the scenes during his freshman season at Wake Forest when he tied the program record for home runs in a season (17) by a freshman. He followed that up by winning the Cape Cod League most valuable player award that same summer.
His bat and glove are two things he is known for, but his bat might take slightly more precedence. Wilken had a strong junior season this year for Wake Forest as he ranked second in all of Division I in home runs (31) and led the ACC in walks (69), home runs (31), runs (90), slugging percentage (.807) and total bases (192).

Competitive Balance A (No. 33 overall): Josh Knoth
The basics:
School: Patchogue-Medford (New York) High School
Position: Pitcher
Height: 6-foot-1
Weight: 190
Age: 17
Bats: Right
Throws: Right
What to know
Knoth, one of the youngest players in this year’s draft class, is committed to Ole Miss. The Brewers will have to make a considerable financial commitment to get him to sign instead.
The right-hander is known for his deadly curveball, which has a spin rate of 3,000-plus rpm. He threw two perfect games in the last two years, with the most recent one last spring when he struck out 19 batters.
Draft analysts are projecting him to be a starter if he does decide to go pro this season. In his senior season at Patchogue-Medford, Knoth was nearly untouchable as he racked up 109 strikeouts while giving up just five hits and one run.
Second round (No. 54 overall): Mike Boeve
The basics
School: University of Nebraska Omaha
Position: Third base
Height: 6-foot-2
Weight: 210
Age: 21
Bats: Left
Throws: Right
What to know
He hit .401 with a .512 on-base percentage this spring for Nebraska-Omaha, while only striking out just nine times in 211 plate appearances. In his three seasons in Omaha, Boeve was a three-time all-Summit League selection and named the conference’s player of the year in 2022.
Boeve has a quick and smooth left-handed swing and fits the mold of draft prospects the Brewers have taken in recent years, as he has a great ability to hit for contact.
Third round (No. 87 overall): Eric Bitonti
The basics
School: Aquinas (Calif.) High School
Position: Third base/shortstop
Height: 6-foot-4
Weight: 218
Age: 17
Bats: Left
Throws: Right
Congrats #ClassOf2023 graduate Eric Bitonti, selected #87 overall by the Milwaukee Brewers
Well done Eric - your Falcon family is very proud of you.

What to know
He's a tall, lengthy left-handed hitter with raw power and talent. But what stands out about Bitonti is his arm, which was his highest scouting grade according to MLB.com, and his defense.
Bitonti played on the Brewers Area Code team last year. He's committed to Oregon.

Fourth round (No. 119 overall): Jason Woodward
The basics
School: Florida Gulf Coast University
Position: Pitcher
Height: 6-foot-1
Weight: 180
Age: 21
Bats: Right
Throws: Right

Woody is heading to Milwaukee. Great pick @Brewers 👊#WeKnow #WingsUp #DingerCity pic.twitter.com/jgAWDaFMj0— FGCU Baseball ⚾️ (@FGCU_Baseball) July 10, 2023
What to know
Woodward was an unranked prospect heading into the draft. He has a small sample size as he has only appeared in 34 games, 20 of which were starts, in three years at FGCU. He finished with 2-0 with a 1.32 ERA in 13⅔ innings this season, as he had Tommy John surgery a few months ago.
He was the Eagles Friday starter last year, posting a 6-4 record with a 4.11 ERA and a team-high 82 strikeouts in 76⅔ innings.
Fifth round (No. 155 overall): Ryan Birchard
The basics
School: Niagara County Community College
Position: Pitcher
Height: 6-foot
Weight: 207
Age: 19
Bats: Left
Throws: Right
🚨DRAFTED!🚨
Thunder Pitcher Ryan Birchard selected by the Brewers in today's MLB Draft!#TrentonMakesBaseballTakes⚾️ pic.twitter.com/bZPoHB66fh— Trenton Thunder⚡ (@TrentonThunder) July 10, 2023
What to know
His best pitch is his fastball, which sits mid-90s. Birchard earned NJCAA Division III All-American first team honors this season at Niagara Country Community College as he went 8-0 with a 1.08 ERA and 95 strikeouts against 28 walks in 50 innings.
He competed in the MLB Draft League this summer for the Trenton Thunder, where he earned Pitcher of the Week honors in June after posting four perfect innings in two games. He's the sixth junior-college pitcher the Brewers have taken since 2021.
Sixth round (No. 182 overall): Cooper Pratt
The basics
School: Magnolia Heights (Miss.) High School
Position: Shortstop
Height: 6-foot-4
Weight: 195
Age: 18
Bats: Right
Throws: Right
What to know
Pratt was a highly anticipated prospect going into this year's draft, as MLB Pipeline cited the 6-foot-4 shortstop with some of the best bat-to-ball skills and strike-zone awareness among all high school eligible prospects in this year's draft class.
He has great upside and can affect the game in multiple ways, as he led Magnolia to its 11th straight Midsouth Association of Independent Schools 5A title this spring, pitching a three-hit shutout while driving in two runs in the title game.
One name that was linked in player comparisons for Pratt was the Baltimore Orioles' young star shortstop, Gunnar Henderson. Pratt is committed to Ole Miss, so for the Brewers to sign him, they'll likely need to offer more than the allotted slot spot value ($309,900) and attempt to sign their earlier draft picks to an under-slotted value price.
Seventh round (No. 212 overall): Tate Kuehner
The basics
School: Louisville
Position: Pitcher
Height: 6-foot-1
Weight: 195
Bats: Left
Throws: Left
𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝙑𝙞𝙡𝙡𝙚 ➡️ 𝘽𝙧𝙚𝙬 𝘾𝙧𝙚𝙬@tatekuehner is headed to the @Brewers‼️#GoCards | #MLBDraft pic.twitter.com/yENncexcEy
— Louisville Baseball (@LouisvilleBSB) July 10, 2023
What to know
The 6-foot-1 southpaw Kuehner was originally recruited to be a starter for Louisville but made the transition to a swing-arm in 2022.
He finished with a 3.99 ERA and a WHIP of 1.28 with 54 strikeouts in 19 appearances, two of which were starts, this season for the Cardinals. Kuehner held opponents to a .197 batting average.
Though he didn't have his best season for the Cardinals this season, Kuehner does have the makings to be a closer in the majors. He throws a low to mid-90s fastball that has a 2,350+ rmp spin rate.
Now the question is whether the Brewers will develop him to be a starter or a reliever.
Eighth round (No. 242 overall): Craig Yoho
The basics
School: Indiana
Position: Pitcher
Height: 6-foot-2
Weight: 225
Bats: Right
Throws: Right
Roll down the barrel 🛢️
Craig Yoho selected in the eighth round of the #MLBDraft by the @Brewers #ProIU | @YohoCraig | #ThisIsMyCrew pic.twitter.com/XxX1gCcrlu— Indiana Baseball (@IndianaBase) July 10, 2023
What to know
Yoho started his collegiate career in the Big 12 at Houston before transferring to Indiana. He missed the 2021 and 2022 seasons with his second Tommy John surgery and a knee injury.
He made 17 appearances, all in relief, this season for the Hoosiers as he totaled 63 strikeouts to just 19 walks in 37 innings.
Despite missing a significant amount of time — 1,082 days to be exact — Yoho does have some arm power as his fastball sits around the mid-90s. He should project to be a reliever for the Brewers, if they're able to sign him.
Ninth round (No. 272 overall): Mark Manfredi
The basics
School: Dayton
Position: Pitcher
Height: 6-foot-4
Weight: 210
Bats: Right
Throws: Left
Let's hear it for Mark Manfredi!!@MarkMmanfredi18 is heading to the @Brewers!#FlyBoys // #GoFlyers // #ProFlyers pic.twitter.com/UV7M1HVAEA
— Dayton Baseball (@DaytonBaseball) July 10, 2023
What to know
The 6-foot-4 left-hander has been one of Dayton's most consistent starters the last two seasons, finishing top three in starts both years. He led the Flyers and ranked third in the Atlantic-10 in strikeouts with 96.
Manfredi has impressed this summer on the Cape as he pitched for the Wareham Gateman, striking out 16 batters in his first three starts and posting a 2.08 ERA over 13 innings with four walks.
He does generate some whiff, as he had a 27% strikeout rate for Dayton. His fastball and curveball stand out in his repertoire.
10th round (No. 302 overall): Morris Austin
The basics
School: Houston Christian University
Position: Pitcher
Height: 6-foot-2
Weight: 180
Bats: Right
Throws: Right
What to know
He made two starts in 35 appearances across three seasons at Houston Christian, formerly known as Houston Baptist. Austin's usage has gone down in each of the last two seasons, after appearing in 18 games his freshman season.
The 6-foot-4 right-hander struggled this season for the Huskies as he finished with an ERA of 7.00 in eight games with 13 strikeouts across nine innings.
He has three pitches — fastball, slider and change-up — and his fastball has reached 95.
Following the selection of Austin, MLB.com draft analyst Jonathan Mayo said on the website's livestream that Austin was put on the Brewers' radar this summer with his performance for the Portland Pickles in the Western Collegiate League. Despite a 1-2 record and a 5.40 ERA in 10 innings, Austin has 20 strikeouts with Portland.
11th round (No. 332 overall): Bishop Letson
The basics
School: Floyd Central HS (IN)
Position: Pitcher
Height: 6-foot-4
Weight: 170
Bats: Right
Throws: Right
What to know
First off, Bishop Letson is a fantastic name.
He was ranked No. 179 on MLB Pipeline's Top Draft Prospect Listing and No. 206 on Baseball America. He has the frame to be a starting pitcher but might be developed as a reliever. His fastball ranges between 88-94 mph according to MLB.com but also has a slider and changeup.

The left-hander was the ace this year for Lincoln HS in Seattle, where he had a 1.17 ERA and 88 strikeouts through his first nine starts of this season. Johnson, an Auburn commit, was named the Gatorade High School Player of the Year for Washington and ranked No. 103 in Baseball America's high school prospect list for this year's draft.
He is known to have a fastball that sits low-90s and a changeup.

What to know
Wichrowski is a northeast talent arm from Bryant University in Rhode Island, where he posted a 5-3 record with a 4.50 ERA in 50 innings this season for the Bulldogs.
He generates some swing-and-miss as well, as he struck out a career-high 67 batters this season.
Wichrowski pitched for the Mystic Schooners in the New England Collegiate Baseball League last summer, where he took a perfect game into the fifth inning against the North Shore Navigators in one of his four starts.
He is pitching in the Cape Cod League this summer for the Wareham Gateman.

His draft stock continued to rise this spring as he went 12-2 and had an ERA of 0.97 with 111 strikeouts. His fastball saw a three-to-four-mph uptick this season and runs in from the side. He also has a slider that sits upper-70s and a low-80s changeup that has some sink to it.
