Game recap: Purdue basketball advances in March Madness with win over Grambling State

INDIANAPOLIS -- The Purdue basketball team is the top seed in the Midwest Region of the NCAA Tournament and will face off with No. 16 Grambling State tonight in Indianapolis.

Purdue enters March Madness with a 29-4 overall record (17-3 Big Ten) and is led by Zach Edey (24.4 points, 11.7 rebounds, 2.2 blocked shots) and Braden Smith (12.5 points, 44.8% 3-pointers, 7.3 assists, 5.8 rebounds, 1.6 steals).

Grambling State (21-14) is in the NCAA Tournament for the first time. The Tigers won the Southwestern Athletic Conference regular-season and tournament championships.

Purdue never trailed against Grambling State. The Boilermakers advance to the second round of the NCAA Tournament and will take on either No. 8 Utah State or No. 9 TCU.

Zach Edey had his 25th double-double of the season, which is the third most in the nation. Edey had 30 points, 21 rebounds and 3 blocks. He was 8 of 14 from the free-throw line. Both Braden Smith and Trey Kaufman-Renn scored 11 points. Smith also had 10 assists.
