Indiana Pacers lose in OT to Boston Celtics in Game 1 of NBA Eastern Conference finals

The Indiana Pacers are back in the NBA Eastern Conference finals for the first time in a decade.

Tonight they kick off the series against the top-seeded Boston Celtics on the road. Boston will be without Kristaps Porzingis, who will miss Game 1 with a calf strain.

Final: Celtics outlast Pacers in overtime

The Pacers nearly had this one, but Jayson Tatum made a huge difference with 10 points in overtime. Indiana shot just nine free throws in the entire game. Boston shot 31.

Neither team scored in the first minute of overtime. Tyrese Haliburton hit a 3-pointer at 3:45 to give Indiana a 120-117 lead. Jaylen Brown made a layup at 2:52 to cut the lead to one. At 2:27, Jayson Tatum gave the Celtics a 121-120 lead with two free throws.

Haliburton got a steal at 1:48 and was fouled by Derrick White as he took a 3-pointer. He made all three free throws to give the Pacers a 123-121 lead. Jayson Tatum tied it up with a layup at 1:12. T.J. McConnell fouled him on the play. Tatum made the free throw to give Boston the lead.

Tatum nailed a 3-pointer to make the lead four.

Derrick White made a 3-pointer at 4:14 to cut Indiana's lead to one. Aaron Nesmith made a layup and was followed in the process. He converted the free throw to give the Pacers a 111-107 lead.

Andrew Nembhard extended the lead to five points with a step-back jumper at 1:57. Jrue Holiday cut the lead to three with a layup.
