Little shakeup in Gadsden area high school softball top 5 for week of April 25

With Alabama high school playoffs starting for softball this weekend with area tournaments, its time for the final regular season rankings for the Gadsden area.

The rankings will pause during the playoffs and return with a top 10 after the state tournament.

Here's the top-5 teams, regardless of class in the Gadsden area for results through April 24:

CHEROKEE COUNTY: Why Cherokee County's Carson Tittle battled back from torn ACL to return for baseball season

1. Southside (24-10-1)

Last week: 1, 2-1

Why: The Panthers had a strong week to end the regular season, even if they fell to Plainview. They will host the area tournament with Sardis, Boaz and Douglas.

2. Plainview (28-9)

Last week: No. 2, 4-2 record

Why: Plainview got busy over the last week, playing three games on Saturday and beating a bunch of Gadsden area teams to end the regular season.

3. Boaz (24-10-2)

Last week: 2, 6-2-1

Why: Another team that was busy to end the regular season, the Pirates enter the area tournament riding a six game win streak.

4. West End (18-9-1)

Last week: 4, 1-1

Why: The Patriots split the final games of the regular season before hosting Ohatchee on Thursday.

5. Cherokee County (27-7)

Last week: 5, 4-3

Why: The Lady Warriors also had a busy week but are traveling in the wrong direction come postseason and have a tough opener with Ashville.

Others teams considered: Etowah (23-18), Hokes Bluff (18-12-1), Piedmont, Spring Garden (21-8)
