Little shakeup in Gadsden area high school softball top 5 for week of April 17
With one week to go in the regular season there was little shakeup in the Gadsden Times top 5 softball teams.
Here's the top-5 teams, regardless of class in the Gadsden area for results through April 16:
GASTON FOOTBALL: Gaston football names former West End coach Derrick Sewell as new head coach
CHEROKEE COUNTY: Why Cherokee County's Carson Tittle battled back from torn ACL to return for baseball season
1. Southside (22-9-1)
Last week: 1, 2-3
Why: The Panthers had a strong week, even with a couple of losses but keep the top spot.
3. Plainview (18-7)
Last week: No. 3, 6-0 record
Why: Plainview only has a few losses to higher class teams and had a perfect week in the county tournament.
3. Boaz (18-8-1)
Last week: 2, 1-5
Why: Boaz picked up a couple of losses this week to teams from across the area, dropping them one spot in the rankings.
4. West End (17-8-1)
Last week: 4, 2-2
Why: The Patriots have been one of the best small class teams in the area. Are they primed for a deep run this spring?
5. Cherokee County (22-4)
Last week: 5, 1-1
Why: The Lady Warriors split the week with a win over Handley and a big loss to Oneonta, but it was enough to keep their spot this week.
Others teams considered: Etowah (19-15), Hokes Bluff (16-10-1), Piedmont, Spring Garden (16-8)
