‘Liberty Alex’: 825-pound statue of USWNT soccer star Alex Morgan arrives in NYC ahead of 1st World Cup match

A massive statue of soccer star Alex Morgan is now in Midtown Manhattan.

“Liberty Alex,” a 20-foot-tall, 825-pound monument made in honor of the USWNT forward, has been touring the country ahead of the ninth edition of the Women’s World Cup, which is currently underway in Australia and New Zealand.

The statue was erected by Fox Sports to honor Morgan’s impact and star power as the U.S. women’s national team gets ready to maintain its well-deserved fame as the sport’s most dominant team — and win its third consecutive FIFA World Cup.

Team USA debuts on Friday, playing against Vietnam.

Made of reinforced and hard-coated foam and 3D-printed resin, “Liberty Alex” depicts a Statue-of-Liberty version of the 34-year-old player, wrapped around a U.S. flag, holding the World Cup trophy in one hand and a ball in the other.

The statue was first revealed to Morgan late last month at the Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, Calif.

“Wow! It’s actually huge!” the California native said when she first saw it. “It’s so real. We should pack that in our suitcases and take it with us,” she added.

“Liberty Alex” then traveled to the MLB All-Star Game in Seattle on July 11.

On Sunday, the statue arrived at Fox Square, in Midtown Manhattan, where fans will be able to admire it — and share their photos and videos on social media — until July 26.

“Ahh so that’s where she is,” Morgan tweeted Tuesday, sharing a photo of the statue and its New York City location. “Glad to know she’s thriving.”
