Lewisburg Area School Board purchases bleachers

Oct. 30—LEWISBURG — Directors in Lewisburg Area School District approved a $175,000 bid for bleachers at the turf field at the high school.

At Thursday night's public meeting, the directors unanimously approved BSN Sports, of Dallas, to construct and install the bleachers at the high school at a cost of $175,288.38. Superintendent Cathy Moser said the bleachers are a step toward hosting district and playoff games at the high school, 545 Newman Road, Lewisburg.

"It vastly expands seating capacity and raises the seats high enough to see over the fence to view the competition," said Moser. "It's definitely an enhancement to the bleachers that are in place now."

Director Kristin Kraus added it helps with accessibility for individuals with physical disabilities.

John Fairchild, director of administrative services, said the recommendation is to approve a press box at a future meeting. The directors declined to approve any additional bids for a press box for the time being.

BSN's bid for adding a press box without an HVAC system is an additional $109,700 and with an HVAC system is an additional $115,410.

Moser noted the bleachers are part of the upgrades at the high school fields. The board in September approved the final contract for the new concession stand and restroom facility at the high school for a total of $862,236.68.

The school board previously approved the following contracts: general contractor to Martin's Construction LLC, of Mifflinburg, for $509,561; HVAC contractor to Silvertip, of Lewisburg, for $44,300; plumbing contractor to Silvertip for $142,600; electrical contractor I.B. Abel, of York, for $165,775.68

Moser said the facility, which will be known as the 1,400-square-foot Dragon's Den at the high school will break ground soon.

"It is exciting to see the Dragon's Den move forward," said Moser. "Excavation should begin this coming week. That's a good step forward."

In other business, the board approved the following:

* A topographical survey proposal, of a portion of the Pawling Complex, submitted by Keystone Sports Construction at a total cost of $13,500.

* FMX for a new help desk ticket management software system at an annual net cost of $4,842.

* A three-year (2023-2024, 2024-2025, 2025-2026) WVIA Enhanced Scholar Program Agreement renewal at a cost of $2,500.
