Leonard breaks Laconia girls all-time assists record with double-double in 87-point victory

ROSENDALE - Laconia (17-2, 10-0) asserted their dominance as the top-ranked team in Division 4 with a massive 108-21 victory over Mayville (3-14, 2-7).

The Spartans currently have a 3.5 game lead in the Flyway conference standings over Omro (6-3)

Callista VandeBerg scored a game-high 21 points to lead Laconia and Payton Morgan followed with 19.

Tierney Madigan added 16 points, Eva Engel tacked on 15, all in the first half, and Aubrey Leonard rounded out the Spartans' scoring leaders with 14.

Leonard also had 12 assists to become Laconia's all-time career leader with 274 and counting. Alissa Dins (Class of 2019) was the previous record holder at 263 assists.

Ellie Wojahn went 4-of-5 at the free throw line and recorded one of Mayville's five field goals as a team to lead the Cardinals with six points.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Winnebago Lutheran 57, Kewaskum 41

FOND DU LAC - The Vikings (12-5, 6-4 Flyway) defeated Kewaskum (9-10, 5-4 East Central) in a non-conference matchup on a back-to-back for both teams.

A close game early on, WLA closed out the half on a 13-2 run to take a 10-point halftime lead. The Vikings maintained a double-digit advantage for most of the second half with an overall solid performance on defense.

Lindsey Nell scored a game-high 19 points and grabbed seven rebounds to lead WLA.

Abby Cole continued her dominance on the boards with a 16-point, 20-rebound double-double along with three assists and Anna Trewin added 13 points, four rebounds and three steals for the Vikings.

Kewaskum was led by Abigail Gerhartz, who scored 15 of her 17 points in the first half, and Jadin Czuppa followed with 10 points.

FOND DU LAC - The Cardinals (5-14, 2-11 Fox Valley Association) held the Terrors (2-17, 0-13) to just nine points in the second half to earn a blowout victory, snapping their 7-game conference losing streak.

Fondy hadn't won a conference game since Dec. 15 in a 56-18 blowout on the road, also against Appleton West.

Brooke Butler led the Cardinals with 15 points, including three 3-pointers, and seven rebounds. Amaria Kejo added 11 points, five boards and two blocks.

Lomira 47, Horicon 46

LOMIRA - The Lions (12-8, 6-4 Flyway) battled the Marshmen (8-10, 5-6 Trailways-East) in a tightly contested non-conference matchup and came out on top as winners with a one-point victory.

Rachel Chervenka and Savanna Frea each scored 11 points to lead Lomira. Piersten Litterick and Emily Driekosen each added eight points for the Lions.

Cassidy Wittenbel led Horicon with 14 points, including three 3-pointers. Sarah Hodgson followed with 13 points and 11 rebounds for a double-double and Mady Rinderle had 11 for the Marshmen.

Central Wisconsin Christian 65, Wayland Academy 54

WAUPUN - The Crusaders (7-10, 4-6 Trailways-East) picked up a double-digit conference victory over the Big Red (6-8, 5-6).

Samantha Braskamp led CWC with 21 points, including 3-of-4 on three-pointers, with four rebounds, five assists and two blocks.

Kate DeVries added 11 points and three steals for the Crusaders and Tabitha Buwalda had a double-double with 10 points and 18 rebounds.

Maria Jose Acon scored 16 points to lead Wayland Academy. Lucia McGuinness followed with 14 for the Big Red.

No. 7 (D-5) Lourdes Academy 63, North Fond du Lac 39

NORTH FOND DU LAC - The Orioles (9-8, 4-4 Flyway) fell behind by 28 points in the first half and only scratched the surface of their deficit in the second, dropping a non-conference matchup to the No. 7-ranked, Trailways-East-leading Knights (16-2, 10-0 Trailways-East).

Scoring information was unavailable for North Fondy.

Hailee Bauer led Lourdes with 17 points, including 5-for-12 on three-pointers, with eight rebounds and three steals.

Delaney Ruedinger added 16 points, six rebounds and four assists for the Knights and Ella Slusarski had a double-double with 13 points, 11 rebounds, four assists and three steals.

OAKFIELD - The Oaks (11-4, 7-2 Trailways-East) outscored the Warriors (2-14, 0-8) by 15 points in each half for a 30-point blowout victory over their conference rivals.

Davis Dercks led Oakfield with a game-high 19 points, five rebounds, four assists and three steals. Mitchell Moser added 10 points, six rebounds and five assists.

Isaiah Hyvonen scored 10 points and grabbed six rebounds to lead Valley Christian.

FOND DU LAC - The Ledgers (10-7, 5-4 Flyway) fell to the undefeated No. 2-ranked Raiders (17-0, 9-0 Eastern Wisconsin) in a non-conference matchup.

Noah Moul scored a game-high 21 points to lead Springs and Sam Lucas added 10 points for the Ledgers.

Pierce Arenz led Kiel with 18 points, eight assists and five steals. Grant Manz followed with 14 points and 14 rebounds for a double-double.

Cade Voelker chipped in with 13 points and Aidan Murphy rounded out the Raiders' leaders with 11.

WAUPUN - The Warriors (11-6, 7-1 East Central) defeated the Wolves (2-13, 1-7) to keep pace with Plymouth for first place in the conference.

Aiden Hawkinson scored a game-high 23 points, including five three-pointers, and grabbed nine rebounds with five steals to lead Waupun. Logan Prall added 12 points and six assists and Jake Krueger had 10 for the Warriors.

Cohen Reetz led Winneconne with 18 points and Brody Schaffer followed with 16 points, eight rebounds and three assists.

Fond du Lac 67, Appleton West 43

FOND DU LAC - The Cardinals (9-7, 7-4) earned a blowout victory over the winless Terrors (0-17. 0-12).

Fondy currently sits in the middle of the pack of the FVA race behind Oshkosh North (11-1), Appleton North (9-3), Kimberly (9-4) and Neenah (8-5), and ahead of Kaukauna (7-5).

Ryker Johnson led the Cardinals with a game-high 16 points and grabbed seven rebounds. Zavion Davis and Eli Braatz each chipped in with 14 points apiece for Fondy.

Parrion Peace scored 12 points to lead Appleton West.

Columbus 69, Laconia 52

COLUMBUS - The Spartans (8-8, 4-5 Flyway) fell to the Cardinals (10-7, 1-2 Capitol-North) in a non-conference road matchup.

Cash Farell led Laconia with 14 pts and five rebounds. Ethan Pinno added 12 points and Cam Smit drained three 3-pointers for nine points.

WAUPUN - The Crusaders (8-8, 5-3 Trailways-East) scored 43 points in each half, making easy work of the Big Red (2-11, 0-9) to pick up a conference victory.

Brock Hoekstra scored a career-high and game-high 34 points to lead CWC. Isaac Abel added 12 points for the Crusaders.

Sam Porras led Wayland Academy with 24 points, including three 3-pointers.

BOYS HOCKEY

Fond du Lac 7, Oshkosh 0

FOND DU LAC - The Cardinals (11-7-1, 6-1 Badgerland) shut out the Ice Hawks (8-13, 2-5) in the first round of the Badgerland conference tournament.

Fondy came out firing with 18 shots on net in the first period, notching a goal from Drake Deanovich to take a 1-0 lead.

In the second period, Blake Spies and freshman Parker Ziebell both had a pair of goals to increase the lead to 5-0.

Brayden Burgess tacked on a goal in the third and Ziebell secured his hat trick goal late in the period to cap the scoring off for the Cardinals.

Senior goaltender Sean Patrick Juoni recorded the shutout win for Fondy on senior night, collecting 13 saves on the night.

Gage Bauer had 35 saves in net for the Ice Hawks

St. Mary's Springs 7, Appleton United 0

FOND DU LAC - The Ledgers (13-8, 6-1 Badgerland) outshot Appleton (1-15, 0-7) 61-5 in the shutout victory.

Armani Fisher, Austin Westergaard and Quinn McLaughlin each scored two goals for Springs and Tate Baker tacked one on for the Ledgers, as well. Westergaard and Baker each had two assists.

Memphis Young earned the win for Springs with five saves and Brandon Tobak had 54 saves for Appleton.

Homestead 3, Waupun 0

WAUPUN - The Warriors (10-9-2, 3-3 Badgerland) conceded three goals in the final period to the Highlanders (13-7, 4-5 Classic Eight) and failed to respond with a goal, suffering a shutout loss at home.

Homestead and Waupun drew even on total shots at 32 each.

Ben Waraksa scored the first two goals for the Highlanders, the first of which on the power play, and Jackson Montgomery sealed the victory for Homestead with an unassisted goal.

Blake Colker had 29 saves for the Warriors and Connor O'Brien had 32 saves to pick up the win for the Highlanders.
