Lenawee County sports from Dec. 18-23

It's the final week before winter break so area programs are getting in some final events before the new year.

Here's a look at what happened this week in Lenawee County sports:

MONDAY

Boys Basketball

Blissfield 73, Morenci 38 

BLISSFIELD — The Royals have won back-to-back games for the first time this season, knocking off Morenci in a non-league game.

Blissfield (4-3) once again had great balance as Blake Wood scored 15, reigning Lenawee County Player of the Week Gabe Schnoor had 13 and Tyler Ganun scored 10. Wood hit two 3-pointers and scored 10 points in the first quarter as Blissfield jumped out to a 27-14 lead.

Morenci (1-5) was led by Talan Kruse, who scored 11 and Shamus Alcock who scored 10.

Bowling

Ypsilanti Lincoln at Britton Deerfield

TECUMSEH — The Division 4 top-ranked Patriots defeated Division 1 Lincoln at Ten Pin, 21-9.

Logan Smith rolled a 277 while Mason Cuolahan rolled a 236 and Jayden Brooks had a 199.

Pinckney at Adrian

ADRIAN — The Maples dominated the Pirates in two SEC White duals with the boys winning 30-0 while the girls won 27.5-2.5.

Austin Garcia had a pair of 169 games while Gabe Wood rolled a 155 and Harrison Boyd a 154.

Sydney Chesser rolled a 170 while Jailyn Lahring rolled two 140s.

Clinton at Hudson

HUDSON — The Tigers boys team defeated the Redwolves, 17-13, while the girls won, 19-11, in the LCAA sweep.

The Hudson boys team led 10-0 after the Baker Games, Clinton's Logan Roberts rolled a 276 to get the Redwolves back in the match while Lucas Goodman rolled 235, Mason Harden had a 229 and Justin Celmer had a 224.

On the girls side, Clinton and Hudson split the Baker Games while Paige Shankland had a 223 to help the Redwolves take an 11-9 lead, but the Tigers took the next 10 points.

Girls Basketball

Leslie 49, Addison 27 

LESLIE — Addison was held to one field goal in the first quarter and three in the first half.

Izzy Durkee scored 10 points for the Panthers (1-4, 1-2 Cascades) in the Cascades Conference matchup.

TUESDAY

Boys Basketball

Tecumseh 52, Madison 43

MADISON TWP. — After a tight first half with Tecumseh leading 26-22 at the break, Tecumseh pulled away in the third to set up the win against the Trojans.

Tecumseh (5-0) outscored the Trojans (2-5) 16-4 in the third to take a 42-26 lead into the fourth.

Tyler Clement had 20 points while Ryan Mossburg had 16. Madison was led by Antonio Nieto with 14 points and Bryce Jordan had nine points, seven rebounds and four assists.

Sand Creek 61, Hudson 46 

SAND CREEK — Three Aggies reached double figures as Sand Creek defeated Hudson in a non-league game.

Rory Eack scored 24 points to lead all scorers. Trevor Opel scored 14 points and Parker Bowles contributed 12 for Sand Creek (3-3).

Hudson (1-6) got 16 points from Isaac St. John and 12 from Jackson Jones. Alexander Czeiszperger added four rebounds for the Tigers, who lost their fourth straight.

Britton Deerfield 61, Bronson 48

CLINTON — The Patriots tipped off the Clinton Holiday Tournament with a win against Bronson to improve to 7-0 on the season.

BD held a 35-27 lead at the half and pulled away in the third to take a 54-38 lead into the final quarter.

Owen Plum had 13 points while Logan Shiels, Ryan Good and Colin Johnson all had 12 and Brayden Shiels had nine.

Clinton 85, Whitmore Lake 46 

CLINTON — Clinton moved into the finals of its own holiday tournament with an 85-46 win over Whitmore Lake.

The Redwolves put four players in double figures. Jalen Stelzer scored 25 points, Calen Keith had 22, Andy Fair had 16 and Eli Turner added 12 for Clinton (3-3).

Hanover-Horton 65, Addison 56 

ADDISON — Gunner Demeuse poured in a career high 27 points for the Panthers, including 21 in the second half, but it wasn’t enough to beat the Comets in Cascades Conference play.

Jaxen Sword added 16 points for Addison (3-5, 1-4 Cascades).

Girls Basketball

Tecumseh 62, Madison 50 

MADISON TWP. — Alli Zajac’s 32 points countered Madison’s 11 3-pointers as Tecumseh beat Madison.

Zajac scored 13 in the first quarter as the two teams got caught in a shoot out to open the game. Zajac shot 12-for-14 from the floor and had four rebounds.

“They shot the lights out,” Tecumseh coach Kristy Zajac said. “They came to play. It was a tough battle but I’m proud of how we responded.”

Addi Zajac did damage inside for Tecumseh (3-2), sinking seven of eight shots for 14 points and pulling down eight boards. Ashlyn Moorehead had nine points and five assists.

Madison (4-1) was led by reigning Lenawee County Player of the Week, Jaeda Parish, who hit four 3-pointers and scored 12 points, and Caylan Sower, who scored 11.

Morenci 61, Britton Deerfield 27

BRITTON — The Bulldogs held the Patriots to a single free throw made in the second quarter to pull away for the TCC win.

Morenci (4-0, 1-0 TCC) led 21-13 after the first and took a 41-14 lead into the half.

Evelyn Joughin had 14 points while Leah Rorick added 13 and Emersyn Bachelder chipped in with 12.

Lily Watson had 11 for BD (0-5, 0-2 TCC).

Lenawee Christian 31, Whiteford 26

OTTAWA LAKE — The Cougars won their third-straight and improved to 2-0 in the TCC with a low-scoring win on the road.

LCS (3-2, 2-0 TCC) led 10-8 after the first and held the Bobcats to two points in the second to take an 18-10 lead into the half. Brynn Davis had a double-double with 14 points, 11 rebounds and six steals.

Ida 53, Adrian 50

ADRIAN — The Maples started strong, but the Bluestreaks flipped the score before Adrian clawed back in the game in the fourth, but fell short.

The Maples (2-2) led 18-14, but Ida led 30-27 at the half and 49-40 going into the fourth.

Makenna Johnson had 15 points, with three rebounds, three assists and three steals while Ella Salenbien had 11 points, seven rebounds, two assists, two steals and a block and Ciara Ernst had 10 points, six rebounds, two assists and a block.

Bowling

Britton Deerfield at Madison

ADRIAN — The Division 4 top-ranked Patriots boys team beat the Trojans, 17-13, while the Madison girls won 28-2.

The BD boys trailed 10-0 after the Baker Games, but took seven of the 10 matches and the pin total to pick up the win. Ben Islay had wins of 171 and 148 while Mason Coulahan had wins of 154 and 148 and Zack Maynard rolled a 211.

On the girls side, Madison swept the Baker Games and the first round of matches before BD got two wins in the second round, including Russell Scott rolling a 129.

WEDNESDAY

Wrestling

Hudson Quad

HUDSON — The Division 4 top-ranked Tigers picked up two wins as they beat Jackson Northwest, 40-24, before toppling Sand Creek, 67-6.

The Aggies also took on Division 3 No. 1 Dundee and fell, 63-16.

Going 2-0 for Hudson was Nicholas Sorrow (126), Julien Kimling (132), Coy Perry (150), Austin Marry (157), Jacob Pickford (165) and Logan Ryan (190).

Picking up wins for Sand Creek was Nick Trame (126), Daniel Meckley (215) and Reid Hulett (285) against Dundee while Wyatt Fox (113) and Jacob Schaumberger (215) won against Hudson.

Clinton 42, Bronson 27

CLINTON — Division 3 fifth-ranked Clinton finished strong to top Division 4 No. 6 Bronson in an exciting dual.

The Redwolves and Vikings were tied, 27-27, with three matches to go when Hamza Rafferty (285) turned the tide with a pin before Hudson Miller (106) got a 12-9 decision and Zachary Taylor (113) a pin.

Clinton had a 21-3 lead to start with Nate Arntz (120) winning by void, Braylon Long (132) winning by major decision, Connor Younts (138) getting a tech fall and Maurice Ames (144) getting a pin. Bryce Randolph (165) picked up a big pin as well.

Long picked up his 100th win.

Hockey

Lenawee United 6, Dexter 2

JACKSON — Lenawee United picked up another SEC White victory, toppling the Dreadnaughts to improve to 10-2 on the season and is 3-0 in league play.

Gabe Pietraszewksi (Onsted) got the win in net while Iain Mahaffy (Tecumseh) scored twice, and Jack Tessier (Onsted), Rhett Micallef (Onsted), Aron Novesky (Onsted) and Cameron Ritz (Adrian) all scored as well.

Boys Basketball

Adrian 81, Muskegon Heights 38 

ADRIAN — Stevie Elam poured in 29 points for Adrian (6-1) as the Maples put up 81 points in the win.

“It was a good win for us going into break,” Maple coach Jordan Kelly said. “We played pretty well and got contributions from each player.”

Elam, who scored 19 points in the first quarter, added six boards and three assists. Jaxson Francis scored 19 points and Tristan Hayes 10.

Girls Basketball

Addison 33, Sand Creek 20 

SAND CREEK — The Panthers allowed seven field goals all night by the Aggies on their home floor and picked up the non-league win.

Lexi Patterson led all scorers with 17 points. She also contributed eight steals, two rebounds and an assist for Addison (2-4).

Carley Allen led the Aggies (1-4) with 10 points, making two 3-pointers.

Clinton 46, Summerfield 24

PETERSBURG — The Redwolves snapped a three-game losing streak as they beat Summerfield behind a strong second half.

Clinton (2-3) trailed 9-7 after the first, but took a 16-12 lead into the half before outscoring the Bulldogs 30-12 in the second half.

Kaylie Livingston had 16 points to lead the Redwolves.

Michigan Center 55, Lenawee Christian 35 

ADRIAN — The Cardinals remained perfect on the season through seven games with the road victory.

Brynn Davis had 11 points, four rebounds and two blocks for LCS (3-3). Brielle Parker had 10 points and Hannah Baker added eight rebounds.

THURSDAY

Boys Basketball

Britton Deerfield 54, Clinton 43

CLINTON — Britton Deerfield reached the finals of the Clinton Holiday Tournament last season and came up short.

The Patriots didn’t let that happen again.

BD (8-0) used some hot shooting by Ryan Good and a solid rebounding advantage to beat the Redwolves and capture the tournament trophy.

“That was one of our goals this season,” BD coach Darren Shiels said. “It’s a nice way to go into the Christmas break.”

Ryan Good hit five 3-pointers and scored 18 points. Logan Shiels finished with 17 and Colin Johnson had 10.

The Patriots outrebounded Clinton 38-23 as Shiels had 15.

“We rebounded very well,” Shiels said. “We were getting two or three opportunities on the offensive end. We have some kids who really rebound well and take pride in it. We did a great job of that tonight.”

Clinton was led by Jalen Stelzer’s 17 points. Caleb Keith added 10.

BD is 8-0 for the first time in school history.

Tecumseh 49, Bedford 46

TEMPERANCE — After a slow start, Tecumseh bounced back with strong second and third quarters to hold onto its unbeaten record and move it to 6-0.

Tecumseh trailed 11-5 after the first and cut it to an 18-17 deficit at the half and took a 34-29 lead into the fourth. Ryan Barrie had 17 points, 13 coming in the third, while Tyler Clement had 15 points and four rebounds and Ryan Mossburg had 11 points and four rebounds.

Lenawee Christian 69, Lumen Christi 65 

JACKSON — The Cougars got a big non-conference victory on the road, beating Jackson Lumen Christi.

All four Cougars (5-2) who scored reached double digits. Brandon Summer finished with 23 points, including 11 in the second quarter. Jaxon Salenbien scored 16 points, including 11 in the first quarter.

Aidan Kaulkins chipped in with 19 and Tyler Salenbien had 11.

Madison 50, Grass Lake 44

GRASS LAKE — Madison halted a four-game losing skid with the road victory and improved to 3-5 on the season.

Antonio Nieto scored 16 points, going 7-for-8 from the free throw line and pulling down six boards while Brooks Horwath scored a career high 14. Jayden Saad had 13 boards for Madison, which led throughout the game.

Girls Basketball

Madison 50, Adrian 27

ADRIAN — Madison bounced back after its first loss earlier in the week by taking down the Maples with a strong opening quarter.

The Trojans (5-1) led 13-3 after the first and took a 24-11 lead into the half.

Jamairah Powers had 15 points while Nevaeh Parish had 14 points and Caylan Sower added 12.

The Maples (2-3) were led by Ella Salenbien with eight.

Morenci 45, Fayette 26  

MORENCI — Alyssa Gibbs had her biggest scoring night of the season with 16 points as Morenci improved to 5-0 heading into its own tournament next week.

Gibbs pulled down 11 rebounds, had four assists and two steals. Emersyn Bachelder had nine points and five steals while Leah Rorick tallied eight points and four assists for the Bulldogs.

Onsted 48, Napoleon 25

NAPOLEON — The Wildcats picked up a non-conference game behind a big game from Karlie Kimerer as they improved to 3-2 on the season.

Kimerer went for 23 points and added seven steals and three rebounds while Hannah Hill had 13 points and five rebounds.

Bedford 43, Tecumseh 39

TEMPERANCE — Tecumseh played another tough road game, falling by four in the SEC crossover with the Kicking Mules.

Tecumseh (3-3) and Bedford were knotted 8-8 after the first and trailed 23-19 at the half. The two played even in the second half.

Makayla Schlorf had 12 points while Chloe Bullinger added 11 as did Alli Zajac with nine rebounds.

Wrestling

Adrian at Ypsilanti Tri

YPSILANTI — The Maples picked up two wins as they beat the host Grizzlies, 67-6, before beating Monroe, 58-20.

Going unbeaten on the day were:

Micah Blaker (113), Diego Orozco (113), Sam Adams (126), Cameron Trevino (138), Khristyan Young (144), David Aranda (157), Thomas Dayharsh (165), Jaden Jankowski (215) and Chad Dayharsh (285).

Tecumseh 38, Jackson 28

JACKSON — Tecumseh picked up an SEC White by winning seven of the final nine matches.

Tecumseh trailed 18-6 with a Wyatt Andrews (120) pin after five matches, but flipped the script with pins from Braden Cronn (144) and Tucker Cole (150), Aiden Atkin won in sudden victory (157) and Cooper Barkway (165) won by tech fall to go up 26-18. Cruz Torres (190) and Maxwell Bledsoe (215) got a pair of decision following a Vikings pin before Ben Shirk (106) finished the match with a void.

Bowling

Whitmore Lake at Britton Deerfield

TECUMSEH — The Patriots picked up two wins as the top-ranked Division 4 boys team won 28-2 while the girls won 17-13.

Zack Maynard rolled a 197 and Adam Scheurer rolled a 192 while the Patriots had Baker Game scores of 204 and 196.

On the girls side, Mikayla Becher, Myah Stetler and Abby Culbentson all had big match wins.

Tecumseh at New Boston Huron Christmas Classic

NEW BOSTON — Tecumseh took seventh in the Division 2 meet with a score of 546.24. Southgate Anderson won the Division 2 meet with a score of 666.4 while Wyandotte Roosevelt won with a score of 718.18.

FRIDAY

Wrestling

Clipper Classic

MARTIN — Division 3 fifth-ranked Clinton took second at the Clipper Classic, falling in the final in an exciting ranked battle.

The Redwolves fell to Division 3 No. 3 Whitehall, 36-35, after going up 28-3 with pins from Hudson Miller (106), Zachary Taylor (113) and Maurice Ames (138) while Braylon Long (126) and Connor Younts (132) each picked up tech falls. Cliff Jones (157) won a decision and Bryce Randolph (175) took a major decision before Whitehall finished with three-straight pins for the win.

Clinton beat Allegan (54-21), St. Joseph (36-33), Kent City (55-18) and Lakeview (64-13).

Corunna Team Tournamen

CORUNAA — Division 3 ninth-ranked Madison took second, going 4-1 with wins against Eaton Rapids (58-18), Everett (69-4), Corunna (60-24) and Pennfield (66-17) and a loss to Lake Fenton (44-34).

Lukas Leonard (138), Lucas Dopp (113) and Logan Russell (285) all went 5-0. Leonard and Russell had four pins and Dopp had two pins and three voids.

Girls Basketball

Clinton 61, Britton Deerfield 28

BRITTON —The Redwolves sank eight triples, including five by Kaylie Livingston, and held BD to seven field goals to pick up the non-league win.

Zoey Sierer led all scorers with 22 points for Clinton (3-3). Livingston scored 15.

Alayna Salenbien led BD with 12 points while Elloisa Guzman scored 10 points for BD (0-6).

Hillsdale 31, Sand Creek 30 

HILLSDALE — The Aggies took a nine-point lead into the third quarter but couldn’t keep up with Hillsdale.

“We struggled to score in the second half,” Sand Creek coach Wayne Perry said.

Tanana Emmendorfer had 12 points, 16 rebounds and three steals for the 1-5 Aggies. Faith Beardmore added eight boards.

Boys Basketball

Fayette 40, Morenci 30

MORENCI — The Bulldogs fell to 1-6 on the season after a cold second quarter created a hole for Morenci.

The Bulldogs trailed 12-10 after the first, but it grew to 20-12 at the half and 32-18 going into the fourth.

Seamus Alcock scored 14 for Morenci.

SATURDAY

Wrestling

Lapeer Christmas Duals

LAPEER — Division 4 top-ranked Hudson took second overall at the Lapeer Christmas Duals after going 3-0 in pool play before falling to Division 2 No. 1 Hartland in the final.

The Tigers defeated Lapeer (63-11), Division 2 No. 3 Bay City John Glenn (37-30) and Wyandotte Roosevelt (63-9) before falling to Hartland (42-21).

Going 4-0 on the day was Nicholas Sorrow (120) with three pins and a tech fall while Cole Marry (138) had two pins and a major decision and Coy Perry (144) had two pins and a tech fall.

Hockey

Lenawee United 3, Perrysburg 3

ADRIAN — Lenawee United's eight-game win streak was snapped, but it still hasn't lost since Nov. 18 as it tied Perrysbrug at Arrington Ice Arena as part of the Michigan-Ohio Showcase.

Nicko DeVitto (Clinton) was in net while Iain Mahaffey (Tecumseh) scored twice and Carson Ritz scored as well.

United is now 10-2-1 on the season.
