Led by medalist Craig, Warsaw holds off Northridge for NLC boys golf crown

MIDDLEBURY — Senior Austin Craig shot an even-par 72 Saturday to lead Warsaw to a seven-stroke victory over Northridge in the Northern Lakes Conference tournament at the par-72, 6,274-yard Meadow Valley Golf Course.

Coach Jack Carpenter’s team, which is receiving honorable mention this week in the Indiana High School Golf Coaches Association boys poll after winning the Culver Academies Invitational at Notre Dame May 11, also got a one-over 73 from sophomore No. 2 Breckin Christner and an 81 from junior No. 3 Robbie Finlinson.

Coach Ken Brewster’s Raiders, who beat Warsaw during the dual season but ended up tied with the Tigers with a 6-1 record, were led by Conner Hochstetler’s one-over 73 and brother Coby’s 80 at Meadow Valley, Northridge’s home course. Braxten Sheets finished third with a 90 for Northridge.

Finishing third in the tournament was Goshen, which totaled 341 and was led by the 77 fashioned by No. 1 Todd Kauffman.

Four strokes separated the fourth through seventh teams of Wawasee (352), Plymouth (353), NorthWood (355) and Concord (356).
