LeBron offers utmost praise for Josh Giddey: ‘He is really, really good’
Oklahoma City Thunder guard Josh Giddey has emerged this season as one of the top first-year players and the 19-year-old recently earned high praise from LeBron James, as a result.
Giddey, 19, is averaging 12.4 points, 7.8 rebounds and 6.4 assists this season with the Thunder. He was among those rookies selected to compete in the NBA Rising Stars game on Friday and recently became just the second rookie ever to record three consecutive triple-doubles.
James, speaking on Saturday during All-Star media availability, has taken notice of Giddey and has been thoroughly impressed with his game. He explained what he has seen from Giddey this season.
He is really, really, really good. He has a great pace about the game. Great vision. I’ve always loved pass-first guards who can see plays happen before they happen. Josh is one of those kids who can definitely see the game a lot quicker than a lot of guys out on the floor, and he has shown it. I think he has three straight triple-doubles and playing beautiful basketball.
Giddey last month became the youngest player to record a triple-double, surpassing LaMelo Ball, who accomplished the feat last season. He now has four on the season, which is tied for Dallas Mavericks guard Luka Doncic for the most by a teenager.
The sixth pick also joined James himself in a bit of history recently.
On Feb. 1, Giddey hit 500 points, 200 rebounds and 200 assists on the season. He joined James, Doncic and Ball as the only teenagers in history to reach those numbers through the first 45 games of a career. He was the youngest since James to hit that mark.
Suffice to say, Giddey is stuffing the stat sheet on a nightly basis and has been outstanding to this point of the season. He is putting up some monster numbers in only his first year in the NBA and has his name up there with some of the greats.
